The Englishman endured a largely frustrating 2008 following a 2007 season that appeared to have heralded his arrival amongst the game's elite. Rose boasted the best record of any player behind Tiger Woods in 2007's Majors and he came close to winning The Masters that year before a double bogey at 17 saw him forced to settle for a share of fifth. But having subsequently secured the Order of Merit, the 28-year-old failed to push on last year, managing only three top-ten finishes and he currently resides outside the world's top 20. A second-place in Dubai in January hinted at a return to his best form this season, but he has again been struggling to find any real consistency since with good rounds invariably followed by a costly poor one at some point. However, Rose remains upbeat, recently stating: "I feel some momentum building and I'm beginning to make plenty of birdies which is a good sign so if I can tighten the game a little bit I should be in good shape heading into Augusta." He certainly enjoys it around Augusta National having made the cut on all four of his previous visits, held the first round lead three times and twice challenged for the title. On his day the 28-year-old has proved he can take on and beat the very best, but he will need everything to come together and quickly if a first Major is to be in the offing this week.
