Houston Open winner Johnson Wagner admitted he was still in a state of shock on his arrival at Augusta to make his Masters debut.
The 28-year-old Texan claimed the final place in the Masters field with a pillar-to-post victory in last week's PGA Tour event, his maiden victory on Tour.
"I've been pinching myself all day," said Wagner, after flying into Augusta with his wife and caddie. "This is just incredible. Last night was crazy.
"I don't even know where it is. It has just been crazy. I haven't really had a second to sit back and think about what's happened."
Wagner had missed the cut in six of his eight starts this season before finding his form from nowhere at Redstone.
After draining a six-foot par putt at the last to win by one, his thoughts turned to Augusta - almost immediately.
"The putt dropped, the first thought was, 'Oh, my gosh, I just won on the PGA Tour,'" Wagner added. "But immediately after that, I said, 'Holy cow, I'm in the Masters!'"
Crazy
"It was such a feeling of relief when that putt went in on 17 and on 18. I'd like to see what I looked like, but I'm sure I looked pretty silly getting crazy with it. You know, it was just what came out," he said, referring to his fist-pumping celebrations.
Wagner, who had planned to be watching the Masters on TV with friends this week, was amazed that so many fans recognized him as he played a practice round on Monday.
"It seemed like every time I looked into the gallery someone said: 'Hey, Johnson, congrats, great playing last week,' and it was amazing that so many people knew my name and knew what happened yesterday. It was probably the greatest day on the golf course I've ever had."
Now the Masters rookie must await news of who his playing partners will be when he tees it up on Thursday.
