Perry anguished after missing on 18
Kenny Perry admitted he will always look back at what might have been after blowing a two-shot lead with two holes to play in the Masters.
The 48-year-old, who was also in control of the 1996 USPGA before bogeying the last hole and losing the play-off to Mark Brooks, dropped shots at both 17 and 18 on Sunday to allow extra holes with Chad Campbell and Angel Cabrera.
And another bogey at the second play-off hole gave Cabrera the chance to win his second major title in three years, which he did when holing out from six feet at the 10th.
Perry reflected on the 18th hole in regulation play, when a 14-footer for par slipped by the hole.
"That putt on 18, I've seen Tiger make it, I've seen so many people make it," he said. "I knew exactly what it was and that was probably the most disappointing putt of the day because I hit it too easy.
"You've got to give that putt a run. I mean, how many chances do you have to win the Masters?
"I was proud of how I played, I really was. I played great and I just kept chugging along.
"If this is the worst thing that happens to me, I can live with it. Great players get it done and Angel got it done.
"It just seems like when I get down to those deals, I can't seem to execute. Great players make it happen, and your average players don't.
"I may never get this opportunity ever again, but I had a lot of fun being in there."
Missed opportunities
Campbell insisted he would take plenty of positives away from the tournament despite suffering the disappointment of being the first of the three players to slip out of the play-off.
The Texan failed to get up-and-down from a bunker at the first extra hole but looked back at a round that could have been much better than the 69 he signed for.
"I missed a lot of opportunities out there but I will take a lot of positives away from it," he said. "I played well all week and I definitely feel good about it.
"I knock it on in two on 13 and left it hanging on the lip for eagle. On 15, I had a great look at eagle, probably no more than 15 feet, and I missed that. And on 16, I hit it in there to six feet and wasn't able to make that either.
"There were some birdies out there. They made it exciting. It was very exciting. I know all of the players enjoyed it, and the weather helped out, as well."
