Hatton, 30, has yet to decide if he will return to the ring following a second-round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao last May.
If the Manchester fighter does decide to extend his career, an all-British world title showdown with Bolton's Khan provides a mouth-watering option.
Hatton, however, says any bout with Khan would have to be promoted by himself.
"It's been well documented over the years the problems I have had with Frank Warren (Khan's promoter)," Hatton told Sky Sports News.
"It would be a non-starter unless I promoted it. In business terms it's not even a starting point if Frank is going to promote it - because of the differences we've had.
"I'm not saying it's never going to happen. It all depends on whether I choose to fight again or whether I don't.
