David Haye says he will walk the walk when he goes in against Nikolay Valuev - but has he bitten off more than he can chew?

The Hayemaker has spent all week getting under the Russian's skin and was at it again at the final head-to-head press conference before Saturday's world-title showdown.

Haye says he will embarrass Valuev and knock him out and claims the WBA champion has only fought men past their sell-by date.

Is he right? Has the Russian been hand-fed easy fights?

Can Haye become the first man in 52 fights to knock him out?

And will his wind-up tactics work come fight night?

Rob Harper says...

Haye! Everyone is saying "haye has never faced anyone this big" has anyone ever faced a fighter this big...? It is a big change for for haye, but consider this. Has valuev ever fought anyone so small and mobile? Chagev mabye on the small front but he bowls forwards in pretty straight lines (hes not a bad boxer but mobile is somthing he really is not!) I think people will be supprised at how easily haye will be able to take valuevs jab away from him, after all if haye slouches slightly the only punch valuev can hit him with is an uppercut? As long as haye avoids these two punches i think he will be fine. I would go as far to say that haye has fought bigger hitters in maccaranelli and mcormak. I think people have overlooked the problems haye will cause valuev for obvious reasons, the height and weight for me are easy options to avoid. Height, go for the body, vaulev has a large body i think that will be a sustained attack for haye, and as valuev slouches to cover his ribs, then come the overhand rights, which in my oppinion is what won the fight for Hollyfield (on my scorecard anyway!) as for weight, haye will be mobile enough i think valuev will try to lean but i think haye will hit and run.

There are so many things wong with this fight regarding size, style, experience and heart but that's what's making it unmissable and it could really go either way my head say's Haye in the mid rounds however the longer the fight goes on the better it's going to suit Valuev it's really exciting to have a bout like this in the heavyweights as for so long now i've been bored to death watching east european boxers with lazy jabs pawing their way to a forgone conclusion. Com'on the Hayemaker!!!

Does anyone know where the weigh in is taking place and what time please ?

Jonathan Higgins says...

I hope Haye wins. Heavy Weight has been a non event for most of the last decade. It would be great to go back to a time where there were great heavy weights rather than these giants who mascerade as boxers. Haye winning it would be the 1st step to the heavy weight crown going back to becoming the biggest prize in boxing

Although i dont see the point in winding up Valuev who's a good guy, im a big fan of Haye, he will stop Valuev and then hopefully fight Wladimir, not Vitali, i think Wladimir is beatable for Haye, David has everything he hates, a will to win, fearless, far superior speed, power and a massive heart, i dont think either Klitschko brother has heart

Frankie Evans says...

Has it even been considered that Valuev himself may be past his prime? The guys been slightly lucky in his last 2 fights against 2 past prime fighters in their own right Ruiz and Holyfield. Neither of them particularly big heavyweights either. If Haye is to be taken seriously as a heavyweight then he should win this fight reasonably easily. I know styles make fights, but this is the same guy who lost a close fight to Chagaev, who then went on to get beaten easily by Wladimir Klitschko. Funny a bunch of punters saying my predictions never wrong, when people like Freddie Roach who train boxers for a living, and used to box himself say Haye will win, and he rarely gets a prediction wrong himself.

Will Feetham says...

To Mike Shaw, how does haye only fight people he knows he can beat, :S haye goes for the big fighters, and he wanted klitchko before they used hayes back problem as an excuse to not fight him again

Bo Diddley says...

Haye will become the WBA heavyweight champ. Granted Valuev is a big lad but he's slow and sluggish, david haye has come up against big hitters in the past like Mormeck and Fragomeni and he's managed to knock them out. Valuev's problem will be tryin to land punches on David. Haye's quick and evasive with a great boxing mind and unquestionable knockout power. Haye to win by stoppage 8th/9th round.

Alex Bracken says...

To be honest i hope david haye gets beat because he is getting to big for his own boots. if he beats valuev i hope him and klitchsko get together then he will show haye who is champion

Kem Tur says...

Hay will win but the beast is a mean fighter when he needs to be. His last fight he took it easy on the old chap respecting him but with hay the beast will punch him around the ring with his jap. Hay needs to let a haymaker uppercut floor the beast from the east then he will win ;)

Sadie Murphy says...

I think David Haye will win, he is relatively young, fit and mobile which is something alot of heavyweights aren't. Though Valuev's previous opponents have been much criticised the likelihood is that anyone who Valuev has beaten recently would wipe the floor with all other british heavyweights. When Haye wins on Saturday he will reignite the heavywieght scene and commence on some titanic battles with the Klitchko's and then take on whoever else fancies thier chances.

Paul Higham says...

I'd love Haye to win to have a British Heavyweight champ again. His only chance though is to keep out of the big guys way and pick him off to accumulate points. A points win his his only chance,he will not knock this guy down he's just too darn big!!

Gary Withers says...

Unfortunately Valuev is going to win this without a doubt, Haye doesn't have the jaw or the power for this fight against such a giant as Valuev. Lewis woud have humiliated Valuev but unfortunately there is no one in that league around at the moment

Posted 10:25 5th November 2009

Chris Dowson says...

Can't see Haye losing... this guy is big but doesn't punch big, speed kills and when you can back it up with a hard punch then doesn't matter how big they are they will fall. All the hype has been great and it is just publicity for the fight, Valuev wouldn't fight Haye if he was meek and humble it wouldn't sell, not only is Haye tough, he's very clever as well he knows what he's doing and he is just the man to light up a boring division!

Posted 10:21 5th November 2009

Graham Thomas says...

Haye is the man, he will knock out valuev no problem, but will be difficult, the man isn't human. The size of valuev must be easy too hit, but his height is a joke, how can he even be a boxer, his a beast

Mike Picton says...

The bookies have Haye odds on favourite, how often are they wrong? enough said

Ian Fraser says...

its easier to punch up than down haye should go for the ribs underneath the elbows bring the russians arms down then take his head with the haymaker. Imagine the leveridge he wil be able to get when punching to the body. He still has to watch that fragile chin and his stamina remember carl thompson.

Ron Hodgson says...

If Haye can stay on the inside he will ko Valuev out, but if he tries to fight an outside fight, he does not stand a chance and it will be curtains in minutes

Melchizedek Bedrosian says...

When one eliminates any kind of bias, the remainder is the simple truth that Haye is the superior boxer (in terms of skill). Valuev has superior strength, but limited mobility in comparison. Haye has one of two choices. Stick and move for 12 rounds, and pray he isn't cheated via the score cards, or go for gold. I suspect he will go for gold, and the result will be a TKO to Haye (after round 6). It will be a brutal encounter. Haye will need at least a year to recover. I still get flashbacks about what valuev did to Rahman. Brrrrrrrrrrr!

Scotty Devlin says...

this is gana be a close fight a think personally if haye can stick to his plan get in and out quick n keep his head moving a think it will be a fab fight. if haye get caught in tha corner good nyt thats all she wrote cant wait, lets go haye!!
