Rocky Ground floors Beverley rivals to score
Rocky Ground got the better of older rivals to recapture winning form for Roger Varian at Beverley.

Reflecting the form of the trainer's string in general, Rocky Ground made a slow start to the season but has hit his stride on the arrival of autumn and he picked his way through a field of hardened campaigners to lead on the line.
A head and a neck behind the 4/1 joint-favourite were Addictive Dream and Excelette while popular veteran Borderlescott was fourth.
"I thought it was a very good performance and I loved the way he finished the race," said Varian.
"He was off for a year before his run at Newmarket, and then it was a good run to be second at Leicester on ground that was a bit loose.
"I thought he would have a good chance today. He needs good to firm ground so it's going to be hard to make plans for him. It's possible that he could have his last race of the season in a Listed race at Ascot in a fortnight, the Rous Stakes.
"He'll strengthen up over the winter and hopefully he'll be a nice horse for next year."
It had already been a worthwhile visit to the Westwood for Spencer, as he had been rewarded with an armchair victory in the Beverley Annual Badgeholders Selling Stakes by David Elsworth's 13/8 favourite Bold And Free.
