Mick Channon is excited by the prospect of Amralah progressing through the ranks following his determined success in the Doom Bar Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
Channon's lightly-raced Teofilo colt hit the front at the two-furlong marker and knuckled down well to repel the likes of multiple Group One winner Al Kazeem, Nabucco and the fast-finishing Vancouverite.
The four-year-old had been beaten in competitive handicaps off marks in the low 90s this season, but the drop back to ten furlongs has brought about plenty of improvement in Listed company the last twice and Channon placed all the praise with owner Prince Faisal for taking the plunge.
He said on www.mickchannon.tv: "That was a great showing from a horse we've always had to wait on. Everyone was talking about Al Kazeem's comeback and at 16-1 we probably ruined a few people's day but we're delighted with Amralah.
"It's only now that he's becoming a man. We've had many a setback, little niggles here and there - hamstring pulls and the like and we've never had a clear run at him.
"It's all coming right now though. He was second in Listed company at Sandown last time out and was a real professional on Saturday. We knew he was well handicapped before those displays and off a mark of 92 I wanted to go the handicap route.
"Prince Faisal was adamant we should step into Listed level and although I disagreed at the time he deserves the credit for Saturday. Certainly the handicap plan is over as he's beaten 110-rated horses and above now.
"That's not a problem, we'll have to see how good he can be in this company and we're all looking forward to seeing how far he can go."
