Fiery Sunset was a welcome winner for The Queen at Lingfield just 24 hours after it emerged her 2013 Gold Cup victor Estimate had tested positive for morphine.
Fiery Sunset, trained by Michael Bell, was the first horse to run in Her Majesty's colours since the news broke and the three-year-old filly opened her account in pleasing fashion in the Aldermore Block Discounting Maiden Stakes.
Richard Hughes was always sitting pretty on the 6-1 chance as Jonny Rae made the running.
The champion jockey kicked on before the home turn and held the late challenge of Button Down by a length and a quarter, with the 11-4 favourite Saarrem third.
All eyes at the start were on Battle Group, who refused to race in this year's Crabbie's Grand National.
The Johnny Farrelly-trained nine-year-old consented to go in the stalls on his Flat debut but that as good as it got as he was never in the hunt under Liam Keniry and finished tailed off.
