Trainer Eddie Lynam has revealed his dual Group One-winning sprinter Slade Power is set to miss the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock next month.
The five-year-old claimed the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket during a glorious summer campaign and was due to head to Merseyside on September 6 for the hat-trick bid.
However, after returning from the July Course with ringworm, he now looks likely to head straight for Australia for the VRC Sprint at Melbourne in November, a race which is scheduled to be the last of his career before he is retired to stud.
Speaking on Channel 4 Racing, Lynam said: "Both of the horses (Slade Power and Sole Power) when they came back from the July Cup got very bad ringworm.
"Slade Power got it worse than Sole Power - both of them are fine again, but it can be hard on their immune system when they get something like that.
"I'd say Haydock is unlikely."
Asked about heading straight to Australia, Lynam said: "I would say so, yes."
