Such a brilliant winner of the Weatherbys Champion Bumper in 2009, he returned to the Festival 12 months later as the 4-5 favourite for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle but could only finish third behind Menorah.
After that his career was marred by injury and following just two races in three years he made his comeback this season, winning the Grade Two Boyne Hurdle at Navan.
Saddled with top weight in the Coral Cup, he moved well enough in mid-division for some way before his old tendon injury flared up.
"Unfortunately Dunguib broke down again and we've retired him," said County Tipperary trainer Fenton.
"He ran a bit keen and made mistakes. It's the same tendon as before so it was an easy decision."
Ridden in all his starts by Brian O'Connell, Dunguib won nine of his 16 races under Rules, amassing just short of £250,000 in career earnings.
