Rookie JT Miller looked to have fluffed his lines when he lost the puck, but regained control and netted from a tight angle. Rick Nash also scored for New York in the shootout, Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves through 65 minutes and two more in the tie-breaker.
The Dallas Stars also enjoyed a welcome return to winning ways, ending a four-game losing run with a 4-3 success against the Calgary Flames.
