Brook: too good for Lomax
Classy Kell Brook retained his British welterweight title with a convincing stoppage of Michael Lomax.
The Sheffield slickster was way too good for the Prizefighter champion and barely broke sweat in a one-sided display.
Lomax, game but clearly outclassed, lasted just three rounds before referee Dave Parris stepped in to spare him from another assault, Brook doing the damage with a sharp straight right.
The right was his best weapon from the off, while his jab was also too quick for the man from Essex and meant the champion dictated throughout.
His footwork was also impressive, moving him and and out of range before Lomax could muster a response. It soon became a question of when, not if, Brook would force the stoppage and Parris duly obliged with 19 seconds of the third left.
It was Brook's third defence of the belt and means he now has a Lonsdale belt to call his own. He is expected to step up in class next.
Kevin Mitchell warmed up for a possible world title with a straightforward win over Rudy Encarnacion.
The Essex super-featherweight forced an eight-round stoppage down the card at the MEN Arena.
Mitchell took his unbeaten pro record to 29-0 and looked to have put his injury frustrations behind him.
He will now look to step up and fight WBO boss Roman Martinez - the man the took the title from Nicky Cook in March - and is rated as the organisation's number-one contender.
