Sri Lanka's stubborn resistance was finally brought to an end in Brisbane as Brett Lee helped guide Australia to victory in the first Test by an innings and 40 runs.
Pace ace Lee took three of the five wickets to fall on the final day to finish the match with eight wickets in total.
Not even two rain delays could help save the tourists, while Chamara Silva's valiant 43 was never going to be enough.
Lee had already added one wicket to his total at the start of the final day, with Sri Lanka resuming play on 218-5.
However he added the scalps of Farveez Maharoof, Silva - who had been dropped on 10 by Phil Jaques - and Dilhara Fernando for innings figures of 4-86.
Two Stuart Clark wickets bookended the day's play as he dismissed Prasanna Jayawardene after the addition of just eight runs while Muttiah Muralitharan was the last man out for four.
