Glenn Maxwell hit 95 as Kings XI Punjab chased down a target of 206 to win their IPL season opener against Chennai Super Kings by six wickets.
Maxwell's 43-ball effort at No 3 contained 15 fours and two sixes and ensured the Kings XI kept in touch with the required-rate.
The Australian was denied a century, bowled by a Dwayne Smith yorker in the 16th over with 39 still required.
David Miller ensured Maxwell's work was not wasted, powering Kings XI over the winning line with seven balls to spare. Miller's 54 not out came off 37 deliveries and included three fours and three sixes.
The Super Kings had earlier made 205-4 after choosing to bat first in Abu Dhabi, helped by a 123-run opening stand at 10-an-over between Smith (66) and Brendon McCullum (67).
