England vs India
So a slow and often lifeless pitch proves to be the winner at Trent Bridge. Apart from the novelty of Cook's wicket there was precious little to get excited about in the final two sessions today. Anderson and Broad had given England hope in the morning but the likes of Binny, Jadeja and Kumar ensured that a positive result was taken out of the hosts' reach.
Over 123 - India 391/9 (Kumar 63, Shami 4)
Mohammed Shami is the new man in to face Cook's medium pacers. The tailender sizes up two before cutting the last one away to the boundary for four runs. The time has come for India to declare and that is it. Match drawn.
Wicket! Ishant c Prior b Cook 13
Cook continues, this time bowling seam, and he gets a wicket! Unbelievable! Ishant Sharma is caught behind down the leg side by Prior, Hot Spot confirming there was a faint edge. What scenes!
Over 122 - India 387/8 (Kumar 63, Sharma 13)
The fun and games continue as Gary Ballance gets a bowl. There is a big appeal for caught behind as Kumar sweeps at one around his legs but, alas, Dharmasena doesn't give it out.
Over 121 - India 387/7 (Kumar 63, Ishant 13)
So the drinks break is over... and Alastair Cook has brought himself on to bowl!! Looks like he will be employing some right-arm off spin. His first ball is a loopy full toss but he begins to find his rhythm later in the over and even tries a quicker short one with the final deliver. Just two runs from the over.
Over 120 - India 385/8 (Kumar 62, Ishant 12)
Kumar sees off three Moeen dot balls before directing another short one through the midwicket area and away to the boundary for four. Drinks are called for but we are close to the point at which India can declare and the match can be called off.
Over 119 - India 381/8 (Kumar 58, Sharma 12)
Just one single from Root's 12th over as Kumar sends an inside edge past leg slip.
Over 118 - India 380/8 (Kumar 57, Sharma 12)
Moeen sends down a maiden over as we edge closer to the draw.
Over 117 - India 380/8 (Kumar 57, Ishant 12)
There is a big shout for caught behind but it looks like Kumar the ground rather than edging Root through to Prior. A late cut down to third man yields two runs, with an earlier Ishant single making it three from the over.
Over 116 - India 377/8 (Kumar 55, Ishant 11)
Kumar is full of confidence now and hits Moeen through the covers for another four. The batsmen then trade singles to make it six from the over.
Over 115 - India 371/8 (Kumar 50, Ishant 10)
Kumar tries to guide Root past midwicket but a good diving stop prevents the single. Kumar then cuts loose with a heave over midwicket for four before hitting another boundary through the off side for another boundary. A flick down to fine leg for a single brings up his fifty - only the second time a No 9 has scored half-centuries in each innings of a Test match.
Over 114 - India 362/8 (Kumar 41, Ishant 10)
Kumar takes a single off Moeen but there is otherwise nothing to report from the over.
Over 113 - India 361/8 (Kumar 40, Ishant 10)
Root goes through the motions again, sending down five dot balls to Kumar before the batsman clips him away for a single from the last ball of the over.
Over 112 - India 360/8 (Kumar 39, Ishant 10)
Moeen offers up a long hop to Kumar but he cannot give it the full treatment as his heave into the on side finds the fielder at deep midwicket. Ishant does find the boundary later in the over as his pull trickles through a vacant leg-side field for our.
Over 111 - India 355/8 (Kumar 38, Ishant 6)
Kumar cuts Root away through the covers for four but only concedes a single from the remainder of the over as India continue to just keep things ticking over.
Over 110 - India 350/8 (Kumar 33, Ishant 6)
India score the first runs of the evening session as Kumar and Ishant combine for three singles off Moeen.
Over 109 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
The spin continues with Root and he sends down another maiden with Ishant content to block and pad up.
Over 108 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
Moeen takes the first over after tea and rattles through a maiden with Kumar on strike.
Play to resume
There has been no declaration and India's innings will continue shortly. One more session to go and it could possibly be a shortened one as this match meanders towards a draw.
And that is it for the afternoon session. The match is all but over as a contest with India leading by 308 heading into the final session on day five. The only remaining question is whether England will bat again before the match is called off.
Over 107 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
Ishant swipes at a Root delivery and sends a fine edge behind, where it deflects off Prior's knee and almost falls to Anderson, who is just unable to take the catch on the stretch.
Over 106 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
England trying to squeeze as many overs as possible in before tea. Moeen completes a rapid maiden and there will be time for one more.
Over 105 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
There is a big shout as Root spins one into the pads of Ishant. It was a similar situation to the Binny wicket but this time there was the presence of an inside edge onto the pad. Root goes on to complete a maiden over.
Over 104 - India 347/8 (Kumar 31, Ishant 5)
Moeen concedes a single to Kumar and then sees Ishant sends an awkward inside edge down to the fine leg boundary for four more runs. Another single makes it six runs from the over in total.
Over 103 - India 341/8 (Kumar 30, Ishant 0)
Just one runs comes off Root's fourth over, Kumar adding a single to his total. Ishant Sharma is the new man in.
Over 102 - India 340/8 (Kumar 29, Ishant 0)
The wicket came with the final delivery of the over as Hawk Eye shows the ball would have actually turned past the stumps. Interesting...
Wicket! Binny lbw b Moeen 78
Binny clips Moeen fine off his pads for two runs before taking a single. Kumar comes on strike and tries to steer the spinner away past backward point but is stopped by the dive of Stokes. He does work away a single next ball to give Binny the strike for the final delivery, which Moeen gets to turn back into his pads in front of the stumps. There is a big appeal and Dharmesena raises the finger.
Over 101 - India 336/7 (Binny 75, Kumar 28)
Root bowls his first maiden over of the innings as India's lead remains static at 297.
Over 100 - India 336/7 (Binny 75, Kumar 28)
Kumar takes a single off Moeen before Binny guides the final ball of the over down to fine leg for a couple. England really racing through these overs with the two spinners.
Over 99 - India 333/7 (Binny 73, Kumar 27)
Root spins one down the leg side, wide of Prior and away to the long leg boundary for four runs. There is only one other run from the over as Kumar grabs a single.
Over 98 - India 328/7 (Binny 73, Kumar 26)
Binny comes down the wicket and smashes Moeen over extra cover for six, the second of the innings and first of the day. Moeen tidies things up thereafter and there are just two more runs from the over.
Over 97 - India 319/7 (Binny 66, Kumar 24)
There is spin at both ends now as Joe Root is brought into the attack. He concedes just a single to Kumar from his first over.
Over 96 - India 318/7 (Binny 63, Kumar 23)
Moeen stems the flow of runs somewhat, conceding just a leg bye and a single to Kumar in his 16th over of the innings.
Over 95 - India 316/7 (Binny 66, Kumar 22)
Kumar shows great hands and awareness to steer Stokes away past the slips for four runs and then comes forward to stroke him through the same area for another boundary. Binny's single earlier in the over makes it nine from the over.
Over 94 - India 307/7 (Binny 65, Kumar 14)
Moeen continues and concedes four byes as his first ball deflects off Binny's pads and away to the long leg boundary. Are India sniffing a declaration here? Binny smashes the spinner over extra cover for four more before surviving an lbw shout while attempting a reverse sweep. India's lead is 268.
Over 93 - India 298/7 (Binny 60, Kumar 14)
Broad heads off the field as Stokes is brought back into the attack. Binny sends a single down to third man before Kumar sees out four dot balls. He then cuts away a wide one through backward point for four, with Stokes throwing in a no ball for good measure.
Over 92 - India 292/7 (Binny 59, Kumar 10)
England perhaps throwing in the towel and opting to preserve their main bowlers as Moeen is brought back into the attack. He sees his first ball disappear to the boundary courtesy of a reverse sweep by Binny, who then skews an attempted drive down to third man for three more runs later in the over.
Over 91 - India 285/7 (Binny 52, Kumar 10)
Broad carries on and flings an errant delivery down the leg side for four byes, with Prior in no position to prevent the boundary as he is standing up to the stumps. The batsmen run a total of three singles to make it seven from the over.
Over 90 - India 278/7 (Binny 50, Kumar 9)
Plunkett's second ball goes for another boundary as Binny pulls away a short and slow ball through the midwicket area. He then guides the next ball down to the third-man boundary for another four before running a single which takes him to within one run of a half-century. Kumar hands him back the strike with another single and yet another single takes Binny to his fifty. It has been a timely intervention from the debutant as India now lead by 239.
Over 89 - India 267/7 (Binny 40, Kumar 9)
Broad has swapped ends as he comes back on to replace Anderson. Binny takes a single off the first ball to give Kumar the strike and the lower-order batsman times once nicely through midwicket to send the ball trickling away to the boundary for four more runs.
Over 88 - India 262/7 (Binny 39, Kumar 5)
Kumar gloves Plunkett away to the boundary fine on the leg side after Binny had taken a single. The sum total is five from the over as the required run rate from a potential England chase begins to creep up and up.
Over 87 - India 257/7 (Binny 38, Kumar 1)
Anderson traps Binny plumb in front of the stumps but Bruce Oxenford doesn't raise his finger. England look miffed but Snicko shows a faint inside edge onto the pad. What a spot by the umpire, if that is indeed the reason he gave it not out! Another appeal follows later in the over, but this one is a bit high and going down the leg side.
Over 86 - India 256/7 (Binny 37, Kumar 1)
There is a bowling change already as Plunkett comes into the attack. A misfield from Stokes allows Kumar to get off the mark before Binny clips one to square leg to grab another single and Kumar sees out four dot balls.
Over 85 - India 254/7 (Binny 36, Kumar 0)
Binny is deceived by Anderson's swing and ends up edging one towards the slips, but it falls well short of the cordon and bounces through it to trickle away for four runs. The are no further dramas, or indeed runs, for the rest of the over.
Over 84 - India 250/7 (Binny 32, Kumar 0)
Broad continues and serves up a wild full toss which Binny clips away towards fine leg for a single. That exposes Kumar to the final four deliveries but he looks solid enough in his defences as just one run comes from the over.
Over 83 - India 249/7 (Binny 31, Kumar 0)
Bhuveneshwar Kumar is the new man in and sees Anderson fizz one past his edge before getting his body and bat in behind the final few deliveries. A wicket maiden for Anderson.
Wicket! Jadeja c Prior b Anderson 31
England are already unhappy with this ball but the umpires decide a against a change for now. Anderson's first delivery makes the hosts feel a little better about it though as Jadeja hangs his bat out and feathers an edge behind the stumps to Prior!
Over 82 - India 249/6 (Jadeja 31, Binny 31)
Broad is brought back into the attack and forced some quick reactions from Binny, who just manages to dig out a yorker which was heading for the stumps. He then swings one just past the edge of the right-hander before completing a maiden over.
Over 81 - India 249/6 (Jadeja 31, Binny 31)
The new ball is taken immediately and it is Anderson who will bowl the first over with it. He gets a bit of movement in the air but cannot find an edge as Binny punches one down to third man for a single. Jadeja then shows good hands to steer the next ball away to the deep point boundary for four, while his uppish clip then falls short of midwicket.
Over 80 - India 244/6 (Jadeja 27, Binny 30)
Moeen takes the last over before the new ball and sees Binny flick one off his pads towards fine leg for a single. Jadeja then sends an edge behind, but it is wide of the diving Anderson at first slip and India take the single, with another following to make it three from the over.
Over 79 - India 241/6 (Jadeja 26, Binny 28)
Stokes continues his spell as England count down towards the new ball. Three dot balls are followed by a no ball, while Jadeja works the seamer away past mid-on for two runs to make it three from the over.
Over 78 - India 238/6 (Jadeja 24, Binny 28)
Moeen is blasted through the on side by Jadeja, the left-hander pulling him away through mid-wicket to the boundary to bring up the fifty partnership. A single makes it five from the over as India tick off another six balls.
Over 77 - India 233/6 (Jadeja 19, Binny 28)
Stokes takes the secnd over after lunch. Binny miscues an attempted but badly before getting his timing right on the next ball to work away a single to deep point, while Jadeja also grabs a single later in the over.
Over 76 - India 231/6 (Jadeja 18, Binny 27)
Moeen takes the first over after lunch and starts with a low full toss which is blasted back towards him by Jadeja, although there was never a serious chance of a return catch. There ends up being just one run from the over as Binny works a single to midwicket.
Play to resume
The lunch break is coming to an end and play will resume in around two minutes. Can England get the wickets they need at the start of the afternoon session?
And that brings an end to the morning session. England started it brilliantly but once Broad and Anderson were taken out of the attack India were able to put the brakes on the hosts and repair the damage. England will need some very quick wickets after the interval to retain any hopes of victory.
Over 75 - India 230/6 (Jadeja 18, Binny 26)
Plunkett is brought back on and comes around the wicket to the right-handed Binny. His first ball is pitched short and pulled away past square leg for four runs and the second is worked away for a single. He pitches it short to Jadeja as well and is pulled away twice more through the leg side to the boundary. A profitable 13 from the over for India, who now lead by 191.
Over 74 - India 217/6 (Jadeja 10, Binny 21)
Moeen gets one to turn out of the rough but it is spinning away from the stumps and Jadeja leaves it well alone. Moeen then switches his aim towards the stumps for the rest of the over and there is huge shout for lbw from Prior, but the ball would not have gone on to hit the stumps.
Over 73 - India 217/6 (Jadeja 10, Binny 21)
There is a faint noise as Binny swings at a Stokes delivery but the appeal is not the strongest and Snicko does not indicate an edge was present. Stokes then gets another one to deceive the edge before the end of the over, which turns out to be a maiden.
Over 72 - India 217/6 (Jadeja 10, Binny 21)
Moeen fails to find any sort of turn as Jadeja is content to leave most of his deliveries while Binny drags one behind square on the leg side for a scruffily-run single.
Over 71 - India 216/6 (Jadeja 10, Binny 20)
The excitement seems to have died down a little bit after England's fierce start as Stokes sees Binny guide him away beautifully through the covers for four. A single completes the over. Binny and Jadeja are starting to look comfortable at the crease.
Over 70 - India 211/6 (Jadeja 10, Binny 15)
England opt for some spin now as Moeen Ali is brought into the attack. Two runs come from the over as Jadeja and Binny take a single each
Over 69 - India 209/6 (Jadeja 9, Binny 14)
Stokes keeps a disciplined line and length, although Binny does manage to work one of his straight deliveries away through the leg side for a single, which proves to be the only run of the over until Jadeja grabs another single from the final ball.
Over 68 - India 207/6 (Jadeja 8, Binny 13)
Plunkett sends down possibly the shortest ball we have seen all morning, catching Binny by surprise as he sends a scruffy looking hook away on the on side for a single. Jadeja then directs a late cut through gully for two more runs.
Over 67 - India 204/6 (Jadeja 6, Binny 12)
Stokes continues and looks to have cured his no-ball woes. He concedes just two runs from the over as Jadeja registers his second scoring stroke in 49 balls, flicking the all-rounder away through midwicket for two runs.
Over 66 - India 202/6 (Jadeja 4, Binny 12)
Plunkett goes full and wide to Binny and is duly punished as the Test debutant strokes him away through the covers for four. Binny then directs the next ball towards fine leg for two before Plunkett tightens his line up for the rest of the over and concedes no further runs.
Over 65 - India 196/6 (Jadeja 4, Binny 6)
Anderson's marathon spell finally comes to an end and Stokes is brought into the attack. He oversteps for two no-balls before Binny flicks one off his pads and down to fine leg for a single, the only run from the bat in the over.
Over 64 - India 193/6 (Jadeja 4, Binny 5)
Binny cuts one away square of the wicket and the batsmen try and scamper three. Ben Stokes' rocket throw from the boundary almost catches Jadeja short of his ground at the striker's end but the third umpire's replay shows he was safe... just! Plunkett then gets another delivery to beat the edge of Jadeja before the end of the over.
Over 63 - India 190/6 (Jadeja 4, Binny 2)
Anderson's spell continues into a ninth over. Binny slips an uppish glance into the leg side but it is wide of any fielders and the batsman runs another single. That brings Jadeja back on strike and he finally manages to get off the mark and in some style too, charging down the wicket and clubbing one down the ground for four. Five runs from the over.
Over 62 - India 185/6 (Jadeja 0, Binny 1)
Stuart Binny is the new man in and he manages to get off the mark second ball. Jadeja, in contrast, has still not scored after 36 deliveries and has another close call when he edges one towards the slips, but the ball falls well short of the fielders.
Wicket! Dhoni b Plunkett 11
Cook makes the first bowling change of the morning and it pays off immediately as Liam Plunkett's first ball nips back at Dhoni, goes through the gate and clatters into his stumps! Big wicket for England.
Over 61 - India 184/5 (Dhoni 11, Jadeja 0)
Dhoni directs another thickish edge wide of the slips but this time there is a fielder at third man to limit the damage to a single. That brings Jadeja back on strike and he sees out three more dot balls, with the final one rising off the surface and whizzing just past his edge.
Over 60 - India 183/5 (Dhoni 10, Jadeja 0)
Broad continues his spell and completes another maiden as Jadeja stays on the defensive. He has now faced 30 balls without getting off the mark.
Over 59 - India 183/5 (Dhoni 10, Jadeja 0)
Dhoni relieves some of the pressure by dabbing one past the slips and away to the third-man boundary for four. Anderson then goes up for yet another lbw shout but once again it was drifting down the leg side. Four from the over.
Over 58 - India 179/5 (Dhoni 6, Jadeja 0)
Dhoni flicks a single down to fine leg to bring Jadeja back on strike, but the left-hander's wait to get off the mark goes on as he fails to score from the final four balls of the over. Jadeja has now faced 24 balls without getting on the board.
Over 57 - India 178/5 (Dhoni 5, Jadeja 0)
Anderson continues to come tantalisingly close to the edge of Jadeja. Bell at second slip is so close to the bat that he is wearing a helmet, but the over produces nothing apart from another maiden to add to Anderson's column.
Over 56 - India 178/5 (Dhoni 5, Jadeja 0)
Prior comes up to the stumps as Broad takes aim at Dhoni but when the India captain edges behind it is Cook at first slip who is in position to take the catch... but he puts it down! Broad has his hands on his head and no-one can quite believe Cook dropped that. It was a regulation chance.
Over 55 - India 178/5 (Dhoni 5, Jadeja 0)
Anderson nips one past the edge of Jadeja, who then charges down the wicket and takes a wild swing and a miss as his jittery attempts to get off the mark continue. He looks a little more assured for the rest of the over but is still unable to get off the mark as Anderson completes a maiden.
Over 54 - India 178/5 (Dhoni 5, Jadeja 0)
This boundary definitely does count as Dhoni sends a big outside edge through gully and away to the third-man boundary for four. The India captain sees out the rest of Broad's over with relative ease.
Over 53 - India 174/5 (Dhoni 1, Jadeja 0)
Another big lbw shout from Anderson but it was again drifting well down the leg side and Dhoni escapes before getting off the mark with a prod into the on side. Jadeja then has another little prod at one outside off stump but his edge falls short of Ian Bell at second slip. He then directs one off his thigh pad and down to the long leg boundary but as no shot was attempted the four does not count.
Over 52 - India 173/5 (Dhoni 0, Jadeja 0)
Ravindra Jadeja is the new man in and the left-hander survives the rest of the over despite having a close call when he had an uncertain poke at one outside off stump. Wicket maiden for Broad.
Wicket! Rahane c Prior b Broad 24
Rahane's single means he keeps the strike at the start of Broad's next over and the batsman soon pays for that decision when Broad gets another straight one to nick his outside edge and fly through to Prior behind the stumps. The wicket-keeper takes a simple catch and it is game well and truly on now!
Over 51 - India 173/4 (Rahane 24, Dhoni 0)
Anderson has the short catchers in as well as he opts for a straight line and good length to Rahane. When he does veer outside off stump Rahane clips him away to the third-man boundary for the first four of the morning. England then go up for a huge lbw appeal but it was clearly going down the leg side and another single from Rahane makes it five runs from the over.
Over 50 - India 168/4 (Rahane 19, Dhoni 0)
Hawk Eye reveals the lbw decision would have been upheld if DRS were available to challenge it as new batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni plays and misses at a wide one.
Wicket! Kohli lbw b Broad 8
Stuart Broad opens the bowling at the other end with catchers at short mid-off, short mid-on and short midwicket. Rahane works him away for a single to bring Kohli on strike and Broad soon finds a peach of a delivery which fizzes into his pads in front of the stumps. It looks pretty straight and the finger goes up from Kumar Dharmasena! Early breakthrough for England!
Over 49 - India 167/3 (Rahane 18, Kohli 8)
James Anderson is given the first over of the morning. He keeps his line and length tidy but the pitch looks just as lifeless as it has throughout the match and Kohli is able to block back a maiden.
Play to start
The players are making their way out into the middle and we are just about ready for the start of day five. Akinkya Rahane (18) and Virat Kohli (8) will be the India batsmen at the crease.
The start has been pushed back by a further five minutes. Play will now begin at 11.15am.
It has been a wet start to the day in Nottingham but for now the rain has moved on and the covers have been peeled off. It looks as though we will start at the slightly delayed time of 11.10am BST.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the fifth and final day of the first Test between England and India at Trent Bridge. India lead by 128 runs with seven wickets remaining in their second innings and a draw looks the most likely result today, but id England can strike early and often in the morning session they could still take a 1-0 lead in the series.
