Hampshire spinner Liam Dawson is set to be handed his Championship debut against Surrey at the Rose Bowl.
Left-armer Dawson, 17, is likely to come into the side along with off-spinner Shaun Udal as Hampshire look to fill the gap left by the absence of captain Shane Warne.
Warne is sidelined with a rib injury, while Dimitri Mascarenhas, Kevin Pietersen and Chris Tremlett are all away on England duty.
Relegation threatened Surrey have no injury problems for the trip to Southampton.
Leg-spinner Chris Schofield returns to a 13-man squad, but there is no place for batsman Ally Brown.
Loughborough University student Matt Spriegel - on a summer contract at the county - and seamer Mohammad Akram are both included.
