Sri Lanka ended their 12-game losing streak in ODIs in style after thrashing India by seven wickets in the series opener in Dharamsala.
Thisara Perera's side reduced India to 29-7 - Suranga Lakmal bagging a career-best 4-13 from his 10 overs - before MS Dhoni's 65 lifted the hosts, shorn of the rested Virat Kohli, to 112 all out in 38.2 overs.
Sri Lanka, previously winless in 50-over cricket since defeating Zimbabwe in Hambantota in July, strolled past that total in 20.4 overs - Upul Tharanga top-scoring with 49 - to move 1-0 up in the three-game series, which continues in Mohali on Wednesday and concludes in Visakhapatnam next Sunday.
Lakmal orchestrated the tourists' victory - the seamer dispatching stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma (2), Dinesh Karthik (0), Manish Pandey (2) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0) after Thisara elected to bowl.
Dhoni, called into action in the 13th over with India 16-4, added 41 with Kuldeep Yadav (19) and then freed his arms at 87-9 to score the 67th ODI half-century of his career before picking out deep cover.
India, looking for an eighth straight bilateral ODI series victory, picked up the early wickets of Danushka Gunathilaka (1) and Lahiru Thirimanne (0) - and would have had Tharanga caught behind for 11 had Bumrah not overstepped.
Tharanga eventually snicked Hardik Pandya behind one run shy of a 36th ODI half-century, leaving Angelo Mathews (25no) and Niroshan Dickwella (26no) to knock off the remaining 48 runs.
