Australia star Steve Smith was the last-ball hero for Rajasthan as they beat Kolkata on a boundary count-back in an Indian Premier League thriller.
Rajasthan posted 152-5 and Kolkata scored 11 off their final over to reach 152-8 to tie. In the Super Over, the two teams could still not be separated.
Kolkata scored 11, and Rajasthan, with Shane Watson and Smith at the wicket, needed three of the last ball to win outright. But they also knew that because they scored 19 boundaries to Kolkata's 15 in their innings, two would win it on count-back.
Smith calmly worked the ball into the off-side and ran the two to earn Rajasthan their third win of the season.
Anchor the Royals
Earlier Ajinkya Rahana stoked a fine 72 to anchor the Royals' total in Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Watson added 33 and Smith 19no.
Captain Gautam Gambhir then led the Kolkata reply with a fluent 45 and some late fireworks from Suryakumar Yadav (31 off 19) and Shakib Al Hasan (29 off 18, with two off the last ball of the innings) saw them take the match to a Super Over.
Shakib, Yadav and then Manish Pandey mustered 11 between them for Kolkata before Watson and Smith scrambled the Royals home.
