The first day of Leicestershire's final County Championship Division Two game against Hampshire at Grace Road was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Early morning rain and bad light prevented any play before lunch, and although conditions began to improve in the afternoon, the rain returned during the tea interval and umpires, Martin Bodenham and Michael Gough, made the decision to abandon the day's play at 3.30pm.
The game is Leicestershire's last chance to secure their first win in the championship this season but, whatever, the result, they will still finish bottom of the table.
Hampshire have managed two wins and nine draws so far, and are sixth in the table with two matches to play.
Matthew Hoggard has been named in Leicestershire's squad of 12 and is set to make his farewell appearance having announced his retirement from the game a week ago.
