Johann Louw is one of seven frontline bowlers in Northamptonshire's 12-man squad for the County Championship match against Worcestershire at Wantage Road.
Louw has arrived from South Africa to provide a cutting edge to a seam attack that has struggled during defeats against Essex and Warwickshire in their opening two Championship fixtures.
Riki Wessels retains the gloves for four-day cricket despite Niall O'Brien keeping wicket in Sunday's FP Trophy win over Warwickshire, while all-rounder Steven Crook misses out due to injury.
Worcestershire's bowling attack is boosted by the return to fitness of Simon Jones.
The former England and Glamorgan fast bowler has recovered from the stiff neck that prevented him playing in the Pears' last two games.
Jones, plus the starting XI that drew with Leicestershire last week, are named in a 12-man squad.
"What Simon has got is similar to a whiplash injury that you can suffer in a car crash," said Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton.
"It just takes time to get better. "
