Mo Farah has announced he will compete in the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on June 5 as part of his Olympic Games preparations.

Farah's outing at the Alexandra Stadium will be his first big race on European soil this season, although he is yet to confirm over what distance he will run.

The Birmingham race takes place exactly two months before the start of the Rio Olympics, where Farah will defend the 5,000 and 10,000 metres titles he won so memorably at London 2012.

"The Birmingham Diamond League will be my first big European track race of 2016 and a great platform to test myself on the road to the Olympic Games in Rio - the ultimate competition for every athlete," said Farah, who is also a double world and European champion.

"The meet has long been a key fixture in the season and I know that having the support of that passionate home crowd will be a great motivator for me on the day and going into the Games.

"The British Diamond League meetings always deliver high-quality competition and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"I'm massively grateful for all the support that the British public has given me over the years and it's been a huge reason for my success."
