Fine manoeuvre takes Pole to victory
Tomsz Gollob claimed his second Grand Prix win of the season in Denmark to keep up the pressure on Nicki Pederson at the top of the GP standings.
The Pole, who won the Slovenian Grand Prix at the start of the season, added this victory in Copenhagen thanks to a fine manoeuvre in the final.
In front of 28,000 fans in his home GP, the Dane Pedersen got to the front on the first bend from Gate 1 but went wide and forced Jason Crump out from Gate 2.
This allowed Gollob, who did not make the start from Gate 3, to make a great move down the inside to go from third to first.
Easy win
The Pole then pulled away to claim an easy win as Pedersen and Crump battled each other for second, with the Dane eventually coming out on top. Hans Andersen finished in fourth.
World champ Pedersen has not won a Grand Prix this term and would have been desperate to claim victory in front of his home fans.
But at least he can console himself with the fact that he is now 11 points clear at the top of the standings - increasing his lead over Gollob at the top by one point thanks to four victories and three seconds on the night.
Crump was in fine form - claiming five wins - including in his landmark 500th GP heat in heat 14.
By winning the final, Gollob became the second qualifier for the Super Prix event which will pitch the winners of the Swedish, Danish, British and German grand prix finals against one another in October for an additional $200,000 prize fund.
He claims the Gate 2 berth in this valuable event, after Rune Holta took Gate 1 by winning the dramatic Swedish Grand Prix three weeks ago.
British interest
Scott Nicholls proved the best of the British riders - claiming three seconds to rack up seven points and just miss out on the semis.
But compatriot Chris 'Bomber' Harris endured a miserable evening, gaining only three points on the night which started so promisingly with a second in his first heat.
The pair will now want to turn on the style when the series resumes with the British GP in Cardiff in a fortnight's time.
