As the new year gets underway, the world of sport has continued with all the excitement and intensity fans love to witness.
Michael van Gerwen
After a successful year, Dutchman Michael Van Gerwen was rewarded for his efforts as he won three titles at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner.
The 23-year-old won the Young Player of the Year, PDPA Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Year titles.
As well as reaching the World Darts Championship final, he also won the PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix, claimed seven PDC ProTour titles and hit three nine-darters as he climbed to fourth in the PDC Order of Merit.
Harlequins
Harlequins overcame a tough battle in the Aviva Premiership at the weekend but came out victors over London Welsh to reclaim top spot in the table.
Quins were looking comfortable leading 21-3 early on, but Welsh fought back at the Kassam Stadium.
However, with Chris Robshaw and Danny Care among the try-scorers, Quins were able to secure a 31-26 bonus-point victory, moving two points clear of Saracens at the top of the table.
Luton Town
It was a great week for supporters at Kenilworth Road, as Luton beat Wolves 1-0 to earn a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Paul Buckle's Blue Square Premier side put in a valiant display at the weekend, with Alex Lawless scoring the only goal for the Hatters.
The victory was made even sweeter when Luton were handed a trip to Premier League side Norwich City in the fourth round later this month.
Bad Week...
Crashing out
The BDO World Darts Championships have already been home to top name casualties in the first few days of competition.
Martin Adams, the three-time champion, crashed out in the first round as Dutch teenager Jimmy Hendriks ensured his debut was a memorable one by securing a 3-2 victory.
It was also not to be for defending BDO world champion Christian Kist, who also made a shock first round exit. He lost to Robbie Green at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green.
Delayed start
The beginning of golf's new season was delayed this week, with play abandoned due to dreadful weather conditions for three consecutive days at the PGA Tour's Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Strong winds swept the Hawaii course at the Kapalua Resort, making play unmanageable.
Thirty-six holes are planned for Monday, with 18 holes due to follow on Tuesday.
Frank Lampard
It has been a rollercoaster few weeks for Frank Lampard, and with his footballing future increasingly under speculation his recent good form has gone somewhat unnoticed.
This week he moved alongside Kerry Dixon as Chelsea's second all-time leading scorer on 193 goals during Chelsea's 5-1 FA Cup win at Southampton, yet conjecture continued about Lampard leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer.
Regardless of if he stays or goes, it is still only January and the focus should remain on his actions on the pitch, not only the decisions he is having to make off it.
Petra Kvitova
It was not the ideal preparation for next week's Australian Open for Petra Kvitova as she crashed out to Dominika Cibulkova in the Sydney International.
The 6-1 6-1 first round trouncing follows her second round defeat in Brisbane earlier in the week.
The Czech fifth seed will be looking to make quick, vast improvements before the opening Grand Slam of 2013.
