A thrilling away win in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Monday night ensured Surrey Storm remain at the top of the Superleague table after four rounds but Tamsin Greenway's side are just one point ahead of both Manchester Thunder and Team Northumbria.
The visiting Storm team were in imperious attacking form in Cardiff last night as they became the highest scorers in an individual game this season. With England international Rachel Dunn firing in a Player of the Match performance, they also took their goal difference tally to an impressive +50.
A much appreciated Valentine's Day break saw six teams in action on Saturday evening with the pick of the games involving Team Bath's visit to Hertfordshire Mavericks. A sell-out crowd packed into the Herts Sports Village in Hatfield and were delivered an absolute treat as Bath continue their remarkable sequence of incredibly tight clashes.
The visitors started the clash and the early exchanges were fraught with tension, Bath taking a three goal lead only to see Mavericks come back and end Q1 on centre-pass with those in blue and gold leading 14-13. The turnover count started to climb in the second quarter as the scores remained tight but with time running down towards the interval, the hosts pulled three goals clear.
At the start of the third quarter the gap increased to five but Bath were determined and come roaring back with Rosie Allison on fine form in the circle, the turnaround was complete at the end of the third quarter with the away team 36-34 in front.
An immediate converted turnover levelled scores in Q4, A flurry of turnover in the final minute saw Jess Thirlby's team steal possession and nail a late winner for a 48-47 victory. A breathless encounter demonstrated the quality of the 2014 Superleague season.
Arguably, the surprise package of the season so far has been Team Northumbria. They collected their third win of the season on Saturday with success away to Loughborough Lightning who remain the only franchise yet to collect a point in 2014.
Another side making it three wins from four was Manchester Thunder. They were made to battle for maximum points on Saturday though as Yorkshire Jets provided stiff opposition in this derby clash.
It was a very tight final quarter as the Jets showed their quality and resilience but in truth the middle quarters had taken the game away from Anna Carter's side. The final score was 60-40 and the momentum Thunder have gathered in recent weeks will take them into a Round five clash with the Dragons.
