Travis Hafner, Brett Gardner and Jayson Nix all contributed homers for the Yankees, while Ichiro's Japanese compatriot Yu Darvish saw three of his pitches clear the fence as the Rangers' five-match winning run came to an end.
The Yankees' fierce rivals, the Boston Red Sox, combined for a season-high 20 hits as they crushed the Colorado Rockies 11-4 in their series opener.
While the AL East leaders failed to clear the fence, it hardly seemed to matter with Dustin Pedroia driving in four runs.
Mike Napoli added two RBIs, while the Red Sox's starting pitcher Ryan Dempster claimed his first win since June 9.
Gio Gonzalez also earned an overdue success while Adam LaRoche hit a three-run homer as the Washington Nationals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5.
A five-run haul in the third inning against Trevor Cahill hampered Arizona's chances, while the Nationals were 6-0 ahead after the fifth inning as Gonzalez won for the first time since May 5.
Albert Pujols and JB Shuck came to the fore as the Los Angeles Angels claimed their seventh straight win against the Detroit Tigers.
Pujols doubled, singled, scored a run and drove one in in an eight-run fifth-inning, while Shuck drove in four runs as the Angels triumphed 14-8.
Baltimore ended their four-game losing streak as a five-run seventh inning - which included homers from Chris Davis and Alexi Casilla - propelled the Orioles to a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Rickie Weeks belted two home runs and drove in four runs to inspire the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-3 success over the Chicago Cubs, with Jonathan Lucroy adding a two-run double.
A go-ahead homer in the seventh-inning from Jason Heyward, who also had a two-run double in a three-run fifth, proved the difference as the Atlanta Braves claimed their second win on the spin by edging out the Kansas City Royals 4-3.
Alexei Ramirez's two-out single in the ninth saw the Chicago White Sox claim a similarly tight 5-4 win over the New York Mets, while the Tampa Bay Rays won 5-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays, who lost last night to the same opposition which snapped their 11-game winning streak.
The Pittsburgh Pirates extended their winning streak to five games courtesy of a 9-4 win over the Seattle Mariners, a seven-run fourth inning put the St Louis Cardinals on course to a 13-5 hammering of the Houston Astros and the Miami Marlins edged out the Minnesota Twins 4-2.
Domonic Brown plundered his 20th homer of the season in the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-2 win against the San Diego Padres, the Oakland Athletics eased past the Cincinnati Reds 7-3, while the Los Angeles Dodgers squeezed past the San Francisco Giants 6-5.
