John Cena had chosen Bryan as his opponent for SummerSlam on last week's episode of WWE's flagship show, but Raw's General Manager Brad Maddox wanted to test the submission specialist's credentials when the red brand rolled into Texas and placed him in THREE one-on-one bouts.
Bryan managed to defeat both halves of the Real Americans - forcing Jack Swagger to submit and pinning Antonio Cesaro - and then recorded victory over Ryback, but only via disqualification after The Human Wrecking Ball had slammed him through a table.
WWE Champion Cena quickly rushed to his SummerSlam rival's aid and challenged Ryback to a Tables Match on the next edition of Raw, while Maddox and Vince McMahon decided that Bryan would fight former tag team partner Kane on the same show.
Elsewhere, CM Punk dared the man he was unceremoniously assaulted by seven days previously, Brock Lesnar, to a duel at SummerSlam - a proposal that the Second City Saint's former best friend, Paul Heyman, accepted on Lesnar's behalf.
World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio, meanwhile, profited from the leg injury Sheamus picked up at Money in the Bank to win his battle with The Celtic Warrior, turning the Irishman's failed attempt at White Noise into a roll-up pin.
The Prime Time Players, though, endured a frustrating night, with Titus O'Neill beaten by Christian and Darren Young conquered by Dolph Ziggler, but Cody Rhodes dealt with interference from Money in the Bank briefcase holder, Damien Sandow, to best Fandango.
Mark Henry demanded The Shield's Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns attack him for the second week running and the Hounds of Justice complied - until they were sent packing by the Usos.
Plus, the stars of WWE's new reality show Total Divas appeared on MizTV - and one of them, Eva Marie, slapped Jerry "The King" Lawler - while Rob Van Dam continued his hot streak since returning, knocking off former Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett.
WWE's next pay-per-view, SummerSlam, comes your way on Sunday, August 18. Make sure you catch all the action, live on Sky Sports HD Box Office.
