It was a fantastic month for two of our boxers as Jason Quigley won middleweight silver at the AIBA World Championships and Savannah Marshall took gold at the World Combat Games at the same weight. The boxing duo appeared on Sky Sports show, Ringside, to talk about their achievements and what the future might hold for them.
The ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup series continued with two competitions in November, both of which acted as qualifiers for February's Winter Olympic games in Sochi. Sports Scholar Elise Christie continued her consistent form to all but assure a place at the Games after the first World Cup meet in Italy before recovery from a nasty fall in Kolomna to claim the 1000m bronze medal.
Siobhan-Marie O'Connor returned to competitive action as the FINA Swimming World Cup series Asian leg took place over the space of 10 days in Singapore, Toyko and Beijing. O'Connor performed steadily across the events making a total of 11 finals and was twice denied a bronze by the slimmest of margins.
This month saw the launch of the exciting new Sky Academy. Scholarships, including our own Sports Scholarships, is one of four programmes including under the Academy umbrella. The launch saw a number of high profile names make an appearance at Sky Studios, including the Sky Academy ambassador David Beckham. Sports Scholar Louis Persent reported at the event for Game Changers and even had the opportunity to ask the former England captain a question.
As Sports Scholarships announced its new association with Sky Academy, it was also revealed that former world champion boxer Johnny Nelson would join the scheme as spokesperson. In this two-part interview, we spoke to the Ringside presenter to get an insight into his new role, the highs and lows of his boxing career and life in the media since retiring from the sport.
Paralympic sprinter Olivia Breen welcomed the SportsWomen cameras to her college and training base in St Albans to film a 'day in the life' style piece. Breen is also looking to try her hand at the long jump in the coming season. The film was shown on the SportsWomen programme on Sky Sports News.
Silver at the World Championships completed a remarkable year for Quigley following on from gold in the European Championships. That victory came in the middle of a run of that saw the 22-year-old from County Donegal go 32 bouts unbeaten ahead of the Worlds final. Even more incredible is that despite his tender age, Quigley is already the country's most decorated amateur middleweight boxer having been winning titles for a decade at national level and above.
