Belfast Giants extended their winning streak to 12 matches in all competitions with a 7-1 thrashing of Dundee Stars in an Elite League-Challenge Cup double-header.
Benoit Doucet and Jon Pelle both scored two goals apiece to leave the rampant Giants requiring just one more point to qualify from Group A and into the semi-finals.
The result also increases Belfast's lead at the top of the Elite League standings over Nottingham Panthers to three points.
The hosts got off to the best possible start as Doucet netted a brace inside the first five minutes with strikes at 1.06 and 4.50.
The visitors pulled one back when journeyman Jeff Hutchins was on hand to score at 11.32. However, at 17.53 Pelle, who was making his home debut, restored the Giants' two-goal lead.
The second period ended goalless, despite the home side having 18 shots on the visitors' goal.
At the other end, Murphy was leading a charmed life as he only faced two shots. Tom Dignard of the Giants received a five-plus game for kneeing at 29.53, even with a five-minute powerplay the Stars still could not breach Murphy's net.
A second goal of the game from Pelle at 46.48 on the powerplay increased the Giants' lead to 4-1 and the Stars then ran into penalty trouble and conceded two powerplay goals in the space of 12 seconds.
Craig Peacock at 51.40 saw the Giants go nap and then Robert Dowd added the sixth at 51.52.
With less than five minutes remaining Darryl Lloyd completed the scoring as he put the hosts into seventh heaven at 55.15.
