Tom Daley produced a superb finish to snatch a bronze medal in the 10m platform at the Kazan 2015 World Aquatics Championships.

The 21-year-old Brit recovered from a poor dive in round two to claim his second medal of the meeting, having already secured mixed team gold alongside Rebecca Gallantree.

Daley made a mistake on his ‘twister’ dive in Sunday’s final and found himself in ninth place after two rounds.

However, he then produced four fantastic routines to finish with a score of 537.95 and claim third place, pipping Mexico’s Ivan Garcia on the final dive.

But Daley could not get close to defending champion Qiu Bo of China, who produced a diving masterclass to total 587.00 points, producing a sensational pike with four-and-a-half somersaults, which gained 107.30 points on its own, in the final round.

Olympic gold medallist David Boudia (560.2) led after two rounds but eventually had to settle for second place.

Daley said: “I'm really happy with that bronze.

"I did make it as hard as possible for myself with that second dive. I've learned to persevere, stick at it and keep going, because you never know what can happen in competitions.

"It came down to the last dive, when we (Daley and Garcia) were on the same score, but I quite like that competition pressure - I find it fun.

“I said to Jane (Figueiredo, coach) before the last dive that this is what I like and this is the fun bit for me. I just knew whatever he did, I'd have to do it better.

"It's interesting to see the same three people on the podium today as at London 2012 (when Daley also won bronze).

“It looks like we've still got it and we just need to shuffle around for next year and hopefully I can end up on top!"

China finished with 10 diving golds at the championships as Wang Han and Yang Hao won the 3m mixed springboard synchro.
