Thousands of athletes, including Sky Scholar Olivia Breen, are training on Christmas Day

Paralympic sprinter Olivia Breen has been training hard over the festive period as she aims to bounce back from disappointment at the Rio Paralympics.

Sky Academy Sports Scholar Breen finished seventh in the T38 100m final in Rio, despite clocking a time that would have been fast enough to win her the gold medal at London 2012.

The 20-year-old from Guildford was unable to qualify for the final of the long jump in Rio and was overlooked for selection for the 4x100m relay, an event in which she won a bronze medal four years earlier.

"Today is my gym day so I'm working on my legs and my upper body to get me stronger to progress as a sprinter and a long jumper," she told Sky Sports News HQ at Champneys Forest Mere Health club in the Hampshire town of Liphook on Christmas Day.

"It's just like a normal day for me but it is obviously nice to spend time with with my family. I always come to the gym with my brothers on Christmas Day, which is really nice.

"My regret [from 2016] was that Rio didn't quite go to plan. I really hoped to get a medal and it didn't go to plan but it's a learning curve, it's made me a lot stronger and I'm looking at the positives from that. But I got a gold medal in the relay in the European Championships and we broke the record, so that was really exciting.

"I've changed coaches and I have moved to Loughborough. I'm really enjoying that but my target for 2017 is to go to next year's World Championships in London and hopefully get a medal in the long jump. I have my fingers crossed that happens. That would make me really happy."
