Elise Christie was thrilled to be in the running for the Sportswoman of the Month award in March, despite losing out to Johanna Konta.

GB speedskater Christie overcame a head injury to power to triple gold at the World Championships in Rotterdam last month.

It was a stunning effort in Holland for the Sky Academy Sports Scholar but wasn't enough to beat the attentions of Britain's high-flying tennis star for the latest Sportswomen award.

Konta beat Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets to win the Miami Open and secure the biggest title of her career and the 25-year-old, who has risen four spots to seventh in the WTA world rankings, attracted more than half of the votes for the March gong.

After a dazzling season on the ice, it is not the first time Christie has made the shortlist and missed out on top place but that is not about to diminish the pride at her efforts over the last few weeks.

"I'm honoured to have even been nominated," said Christie who was also on the list with boxer Katie Taylor and England rugby star Kay Wilson.

"I appreciate that people have noticed what I have achieved and are putting me forward for this. Of course I'm disappointed I didn't win!
