British eventer William Fox-Pitt has been riding for the first time since a horrible October fall left him with severe head injuries.

The former world No 1 had to be placed in an induced coma after he fell off Reinstated during the World Young Horse Championships in Lion D'Angers and spent a month in hospital in France and England receiving treatment.

The 46-year-old has been recovering well and has now posted a video on YouTube which shows him riding at an indoor stables.

"Thank you for all of your support over the last few weeks," he said.

"I had my first ride today, I got that in before Christmas. I had to set myself a target and I am very happy to have been able to do that.

"I am looking forward to getting started and seeing you all in the new year. Happy Christmas."
