Jakub Smrz claimed his first British Superbike pole in the sixth round of the MCE Insurance Championship at Thruxton.
The vastly experienced former World Superbike rider from the Czech Republic also gave Ducati their first pole start in the series for four years.
Riding the Millsport Ducati Panigale, Smrz held off the challenge of title-chasing Australian Josh Brookes, on a Milwaukee Yamaha, by a little more than a tenth of a second with a scorching lap of one minute 15.281 seconds around the Hampshire circuit.
Dan Linfoot completes the front row of the grid on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki, his best qualifying position in the series.
He eased the series leader and three-times former title-winner Shane Byrne back into fourth, though the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider was only 0.003secs down on him.
