First BTCC pole for Toyota driver in Norfolk

Frank Wrathall secured his first British Touring Car Championship pole position after topping qualifying at Snetterton on Saturday. The Dynojet Toyota Avensis enjoyed a great battle for top spot with the MG of Jason Plato, and eventually prevailed with a time of one minute 57.595 seconds. Plato settled for second, just over a tenth of a second off Wrathall's time, with Dave Newsham third in his Vauxhall Vectra. Andrew Jordan was fourth with Adam Morgan and Dan Welch rounding out the top six of a mixed-up grid with their best qualifying performances. But it proved to be a frustrating afternoon for the top two in the championship. Points leader Matt Neal could only manage seventh fastest with his car heavy with success ballast, while his Yuasa Honda Racing team-mate Gordon Shedden was 22nd and last. The Scot's team had worked tirelessly to get the car on the track after a fire during morning practice, but unfortunately the Civic ground to a halt on his first qualifying run.
