Rookie Carlos Huertas pulled off an upset to post his maiden IndyCar Series win in the Grand Prix of Houston on Saturday.
The 23-year-old, who was making just his ninth career start, began in 19th but drove the final 39 laps without a pit stop to triumph in the first race of the weekend doubleheader.
Rain prior to the start saw officials change the scheduled 90-lap race into a timed event of one hour, 50 minutes and Dale Coyne Racing driver Huertas led a Colombian sweep, with compatriots Juan Pablo Montoya finishing second and Carlos Munoz placed third.
Huertas, who became the seventh different winner in the first nine races this season, was quick to praise his team.
"The team did a great job, and you always have a chance to win because the races are so competitive," he said.
Team owner Dale Coyne was delighted, saying: "The kid has been getting better all year, and he showed a lot today.”
American Graham Rahal originally finished third but was hit with a 30-second penalty for avoidable contact with Brazil's Tony Kanaan, which saw him drop to 11th.
French driver Sebastien Bourdais finished fourth, followed by Canadian James Hinchcliffe, who led a race-high 32 laps before he pitted during the last round of stops.
Championship points leader Will Power started 18th and climbed into the top-10 just before he spun out and then slammed into the tyre barrier on lap 58.
The Australian eventually finished one lap down in 14th to see his lead cut from 39 points to 33 over Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves, who finished ninth.
