Sebastian Ogier has won his third consecutive World Rally Championship title by beating team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala to the Rally Australia crown.
The 31-year-old Volkswagen Polo R driver won the gravel road event in New South Wales by 12.3 seconds from Finland's Latvala, with Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke finishing third in his Citroen DS3.
"It is an amazing feeling," Ogiersaid after notching his seventh victory of the season. "We made no big mistakes this weekend and this rally win is very significant.
"It was the most difficult rally to open the road on. On paper it was impossible to win, but I was determined and so it is so special to get this victory.
"It is a beautiful result and it is the perfect way to secure the title."
The Frenchman joins an exclusive club of drivers boasting three or more titles that includes Sebastian Loeb (9 titles), Juha Kankkunen (4) and Tommi Makinen (4).
Latvala, who could not match Ogier's pace on the final day, said "I'm happy to have been so consistent and to have made no mistakes.
"Maybe on Friday and Saturday morning I was missing a little spark to fight for the victory. It wasn't enough. Seb has done an amazing job. He has been better than me."
