Seattle safety Kam Chancellor knocked the ball from the hands of Detroit's Calvin Johnson at the one-yard line to deny the Lions a game-winning score with seconds remaining and secure a 13-10 victory for the Seahawks.
With Detroit on the verge of capping a 91-yard drive with less than two minutes remaining, Matthew Stafford hit Johnson on his route, but as he stretched for the goal line while being tackled, Chancellor came across and knocked the ball free.
The ball was then guided over the back line by KJ Wright for a touchback, although the Seahawks were fortunate that no flag was thrown for illegal touching, which would have given the ball back to Detroit.
On the ensuing possession, Russell Wilson found Jermaine Kearse for 50 yards on third down and with Detroit out of timeouts, the Seahawks (2-2) ran off the final seconds for their second straight win while condemning the Lions to an 0-4 start.
It was an ugly performance by Seattle, with two fourth-quarter fumbles by Wilson, the second returned 27 yards for a touchdown by Caraun Reid to pull Detroit to within three points.
But they have not allowed an offensive touchdown in the two games since Chancellor ended his holdout over a contractual dispute, and have forced 18 punts during that stretch.
Wilson threw for 287 yards and rushed for another 40 yards, his elusive scrambling seeing him spin free of two near sacks and finding Kearse for 34 yards before hitting Doug Baldwin on a 24-yard TD on the next play.
Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch missed a game for the first time in four years due to back problems. His replacement Thomas Rawls struggled against the strong Lions defence, gaining just 48 yards on 17 carries. Stafford finished the game 24 of 35 for 203 yards.
