Rookie QB Deshaun Watson ran for the game-winning TD on his birthday and his first NFL start

Deshaun Watson celebrated his first NFL start with a scintillating touchdown that won the game for the Houston Texans.

Lining up under centre for the first time Watson's 49-yard dash to the endzone was enough to secure the only touchdown of the game as the Texans beat Cincinnati 13-9 at Paul Brown Stadium.

The rookie quarterback has been a replacement for Tom Savage in last week's home defeat to Jacksonville but life on the road got off to the perfect start for the Texans and gave Watson another reason to celebrate his birthday.

The 12th overall pick of this year's Draft in March turned 22 on Thursday and had three reasons to celebrate, following his start and touchdown by leading the team to their first victory of the season.

Watson said he knew he had to make a play when he saw the defence back up

"It's a dream come true," Watson told NFL Network.

"This is what I've been waiting for my whole life and now is the time. We knew that it was going to be tough and we had to work our way to the victory. I just want to thank all the guys for playing hard and playing to the fourth quarter. It was awesome."
