Meet the Coaches

The Nike Academy's elite team of coaches are ready for a tough new season. Their mission is to guide the latest Academy players through the 2010/11 season and maximise their potential.

Huw Jennings

Academy Director

Huw has helped nurture the early careers of many international footballers, including Theo Walcott. In 2006, Huw became the Premier League's Youth Development Manager, working with Trevor Brooking. Since 2008, he's been Academy Director at Fulham FC.

Dean Smith

Head Coach

18 years a professional footballer and captain of every club he played for, Dean Smith has a first class football pedigree. On retirement, Dean moved into Youth Development and later progressed into the senior professional game. In his last professional post, one third of his first team squad were youth team graduates. He has held the prestigious UEFA Pro Licence since 2008.

Jon Goodman

Performance Director

A former Premier League and international footballer, Jon has worked as a coach and fitness instructor with a number of Premier League clubs as well as the Northern Ireland national team. Today he sits on the expert panel for the Professional Football Coaches Association (PFCA), and works with the Sporting Chance Clinic, a charity founded by ex Arsenal captain, Tony Adams.

Nas Bashir

Coach

As Reading FC's former Assistant Academy Manager, Nas played an integral role in building its quality to the highest level. More than a dozen of its players broke through to the First Team Squad or moved on to play for other professional clubs. He has also worked with the England U-21/U-19 squads and the Spurs U-18 team. With previous scouting experience at West Ham, he can spot and develop the best talent around.

Peter Webb

Physiotherapist

From pre-season preparation to maintaining core fitness in the thick of it, physiotherapist Peter Webb has been helping professional footballers stay game-ready for over five years. His experience at Charlton Athletic, West Ham United and Crystal Palace FC, matched with an extensive background in sports therapy, makes Peter an essential new addition to the coaching staff at the Nike Academy.

Sal Bibbo

Goalkeeping Coach

Sal is a former professional goalkeeper who, since his retirement in 2004, has been a leading goalkeeping coach in the Premier League. In the last few years he has established a reputation for developing some of the game's most successful keepers on both the national and international stage.

Ben Davey

Goalkeeping Coach

Ben played for AFC Bournemouth, before running out for a number of semi-professional clubs, including Hayes and Borough FC. Since hanging up his boots, Ben's coached at Southampton FC and headed up the coaching programme at AFC Bournemouth Centre of Excellence. His passion in developing players in all areas of the game make him a valuable addition to the Nike Academy team.
