Semi-final heartache for British hopefuls
British pair Jemma Lowe and Ellen Gandy failed to qualify for Thursday's final
of the women's 200m butterfly.
Lowe finished third in the first semi-final with a time of 2:07.87 but it ended up being ninth fastest overall, just 0.14s outside a final place. In the second semi Gandy touched in 2:10.60 to finish last.
"I gave it my best shot and that's all I can do," said Lowe. "My plan was to go out fast, yesterday I went out easier and my coach said I should go out faster and I think I'm back to my normal self.

Down and out
Meanwhile there was little joy for Britain's Kristopher Gilchrist and Ireland's Andrew Bree, who both failed to qualify for the final of the men's 200m breaststroke.
Bree lowered his Irish record with a time of 2:10.16 but finished 11th fastest overall, while Gilchrist was 13th quickest in a time of 2:10.27, although it did bring him a British record.
"My target was a pb, and I've got that, which is a British record," he said. "I felt really good this morning, so I am disappointed I wasn't able to go one step further and reach the final.
"I had nothing left at the end, but I could have increased my stroke rate over the last 50m for a 2:09-plus time.
"This event has moved on so much and I want to be a part of it."
