Michael Phelps continued his domination at the Water Cube when claiming his sixth gold of the games in the 200m individual medley.
Again he broke his own world record, this time by 0.57s, when notching his win in 1:54:23.
His quest to eclipse Mark Spitz's Olympic record of seven golds at a single Games is now within striking distance with two finals left for the American.
Phelps claimed gold number six with his latest commanding display, finishing more than two seconds ahead of silver medallist Lazslo Cseh, who touched 0.01s ahead of Ryan Lochte.
"I just wanted to step on it in the first 50m a little bit and try and get out to an early lead," said Phelps.
"I knew that was a hard double for Ryan. I knew in the first half if I got a big enough lead I thought I could hang on and that's all I wanted to do."
British duo James Goddard and Liam Tancock came in sixth and eighth respectively.
