Great Britain's men fought back for a 1-1 draw with Canada as their hopes of gold took a setback on Sunday.
Ken Pereira scored the opener for Canada in the 47th minute while GB were down to 10 men after James Tindall was sin-binned for throwing down opposition captain Rob Short.
But with just three minutes from time up popped Matt Daly, who sneaked an equaliser after he deflected Richard Mantell's slapped cross through goalkeeper Michael Mahood's legs.
Great Britain had dominated large periods of the match and will be disappointed not to have taken maxiumum points but the rough tactics of the Canadians ensured the honours were even.
Coach fuming
Britain's head coach Jason Lee said he could not excuse the actions of Surbiton forward Tindall, who he expects to receive a ban.
"We knew it would be close but the first 25 minutes showed we had the quality to win. Two pieces of ill discipline cost us," he said.
"When they went down to 10 men at the end of the first half we had a golden opportunity but unfortunately we then matched it.
"At half-time the last thing we said was do not let ill discipline cost us.
"I have told James I can't defend it. I think he will get an additional ban from the FIH (the world governing body).
"He has been very good and very bad for us in this tournament."
In the day's other Pool B matches, leading duo Australia and Holland drew 2-2 to move three points clear of Britain while Pakistan beat South Africa 3-1.
