A nagging back problem has forced Tatiana Golovin to withdraw from both the singles and doubles at the Beijing Olympics.

The 20-year-old from France, ranked number 28 in the world, has been sidelined from the WTA Tour for the last three months.

Despite taking part in some light training sessions, Golovin has decided she will not be 100 percent fit in time to play in China.

Her withdrawal means France will not be represented in the women's doubles, Pauline Parmentier being the only other player available to the team.

Davenport down

Lindsay Davenport has also been forced to pull out of the women's singles tournament due to a persistent knee injury.

The American sustained the problem during the build-up to Wimbledon and has not played since her first-round match at the All England Club.

A gold medallist on home soil in Atlanta back in 1996, the 32-year-old is expected to be fit in time to play with compatriot Liezel Huber in the doubles event.

Another big name could also be set to pull out after world number one Jelena Jankovic admitted she may not compete due to a calf strain.

Fresh injury

The Serbian, who will be crowned the new world number one on Monday when the new rankings are released, had her right leg heavily strapped at a press conference.

"I'll practise today and I'll see tomorrow how everything goes," she said.

"If I can't play, if I'm not going to be able to give my best on the court, I will not go. It's not a risk I will take."

Jankovic had only recently declared that she had overcome a left knee injury that has plagued her throughout the season.

The 23-year-old is due to face Zimbabwe's Cara Black in the first round of the women's singles on Sunday.
