Tim Brabants will be paddling for two gold medals at the Olympics after just making the final of the K1 500m kayak final.
The 31-year-old doctor grabbed the third and final qualification spot in a tight semi-final that saw him left a bit at the start and then struggle to get back on terms.
New Zealand's Steven Ferguson won Brabants' semi-final, with Swedish paddler Anders Gustafsson taking second spot.
Chertsey man Brabants will now have a double medal bid as he goes in both the 500m and 1000m finals over the next two days.
The current world champion and Athens bronze medallist at the 1000m will contest the final of that, his favoured distance, on Friday.
Double chance
Brabants will then take his chance in the 500m event final on Saturday at Shunyi, and he is ready to add another medal to Britain's haul after watching the rowers do well at the venue.
"This has been a very successful bit of water for us over the last two weeks," said Brabants.
"It's time for me to do my part.
"It's a totally different race, 500m to 1000m. Historically the 1000m is my preferred event, so I am looking forward to doing well in that one."
Wainwright through
Lucy Wainwright also made it through to her final in the women's 500 kayak event, producing a strong run from behind to finish second in the semi-final.
The 30-year-old finished behind Inna Osypenko-Radomska in a time of one minute 52.580 seconds, just over a second behind the Ukrainian, with Jennifer Hodson of South Africa third.
"I didn't get a good start again, but then I just kept flooring it all the way to the line. It's really quite tough out there," said Wainwright.
"I guess I came here to make the finals but there's so many great girls out there.
"I put pressure on myself because I made the finals in Athens, but if I can nail my start, who knows where I could finish?"
