Chris Hoy for me is a superstar and appears a very down to earth humble guy, the camraderie between all the countries has been fantastic and cycling has been a complete pleasure to watch during these games and I hope that the Olympic committee will include many of the excluded World championship events at subsequent Olmypics. Also, whilst writing I just wanted to say that I completely agree with a lot of the general comments made that for some reason, the media and particularly the BBC seem to place far more value on any athletics medal than our fantastic haul of cycling, swimming, rowing and sailing gold medals. These sports have highlighted the complete inadequacy of many of the so called main stream athletics events who are supplying a steady stream of 'gallant' British losers typified by the hype surrounding Paula Radcliffes dismal performance in the marathon, where so much airtime and column inches was given over to her failure and so little to the excellent effort of her teammate who ran her heart out to finish 6th. We have far too many athletes at the games who haven't got a hope of getting anywhere near the medals and while experience is great, the gulf in class between some of them and the rest of the world is embarassing. As far as I can see nearly every member of the rowing, sailing and cycling team went to Beijing with the belief in their ability to win medals, far too many of the others seems far to happy to simply be at the Olympics on holiday!

Chris Hoy is a hero for Great Britian the first british olympian to win 3golds in over 100 years!!!!!! One thing that has come to my knowledge is the lack of press coverage of his achievements not that there has been none but the likes of Addlington the swimmers medals seem to eclipse Hoy's however he won more. This is shown the the sky sports best british olympian poll where hoy has only 10% along with others such as Christine Ohuruogu and Addlington was well ahead with 40% i'm sorry but it seems the english members of team GB gain a lot more support,

Absolutely Fantastic, What an achievement! Every British rider did Great Britian proud. When we didnt get a medal in the team points race I was a little disapointed because during the course of this olympics the whole team seamed to win a medal in every event that I had become accustomed to us always being on the medal podium. Well done Team GB and especially Chris Hoy!

Well done to Bryony Shaw for her bronze medal, pity she had to nullify all celebrations with her filthy mouth.

Arise Sir Chris! The man needs to be Knighted, when you look at the likes of Sir Steve Redgrave and Dame wingebag Kelly Holmes, he has achieved more than any of them, the first person to win 3 olympic golds in one olympics for 100 years. What an achievment, if they can get recognised for their achievments then he certainly needs to be! Congratulations to the whole British Olympic squad they have done us all proud. On a side note I hope the goverment are ashamed! Why? Just think what they could have achieved if they invested more money in to the athletes and sport in general, instead of the lottery?

Im in Japan at the moment, Japan saw a bronze medal awarded to them in Keirin, an event which originated in Japan, Japan were so proud to see their athlete receive bronze. Its really quite amazing to be across the globe and see the British cyclists and athletes on tv here, to see the Union Jack flying at the medal ceremonies and on the medal table makes me feel so proud, Thankyou Team GB!!!

Chris Hoy is a living legend, and we need to pile on the praise for his efforts. I reckon if Kelly became a Dame then we have to do something for this guy, he has gone one better! but that aside I reckon he would say forget that and invest more in the kids, get them playing sport, being proud, pick a javelin or a shot putt and drop the knife, more investment in the sports at which we excel, and even more in the sports we dont. It looks like we will be 3rd in the medal table, that is a phenominal result, we have 4 years now to push on and go for the top spot, look at the incredible Chinese, I feel sure if we follow the example we can achieve the standards they set.

i agree wholeheartedly with mick w, investment that has clearly paid off and what a great way to spend it, makes you proud to british for once, these games have been superb and if we can get more youths into sport the less social problems we will have .

It's all very well giving loads of lottery money to people and I don't think it's a bad thing for sports AT ALL.The problem for me is the way sports in schools have been swept aside, the playing fields have been sold, competition seems to be a swear word and to get better at any sport you have to join a club which means that it is essentially means tested.Well done all of the athletes not just those who won,but who also competed.

Alot of praise needs to paid to British Cycling Federation , Sport England & Manchester City Council. Way back in 1994 the Manchester Velodrome was built amidst controversy ,( failed Olympics Bids 1992 - 1996 ,claims of it being an expensive White Elephant) . Since then it has spured the adoption of a Sports city used for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, 15 World records have been set there and the facility has been so well used the track wore out 7 years early in 2006, ( To be replaced by a better quality track made of Siberian Larch ) . Now a team of athletes have emerged that are world beaters. All it took was vision and 20 years of planning ! Now we are reaping the rewards I dearly hope that Bradley , Chris , Victoria , Rebecca get as much recognition and praise as a track athlete would. Well deserved .

I think it is fantastic what the whole British team have done. It will hopefully show kids out there that sitting on a computer all day is not what live should be about. Also i agree with the coment of Mick Waterman, that more money should be used for sport and not on druggies and handouts. Go on team GB, well done Chris Hoy, you make me feel proud to be from Edinburgh.

Tech Tech says...

Dear Sir/Madam, I am getting quite annoyed by some journalists in the newspapers and former athletes on the Television who appear now to be criticising the cycling and rowing teams and denigrating their efforts in the 2008 Olympics because of the failure of the overpaid and over pampered athletes who have achieved very little in previous Olympic games over many years. As a former athlete with a very good standard in these sports, I will now put you straight about the reality of these matters. To train to a top level in rowing and cycling it takes many years of hard work and pain, more so than many athletic events and in addition the level of general fitness of many top rowers and cyclists is far superior to that of many top athletes. Yes you have to be fit in athletics generally but stamina is not an issue in certain events ie the pole vault, hammer, discus long jump or triple jump. Sculling is a very technical event and pursuit cycling especially so and you cannot train for those overnight they require timing, skill, strength and a lot of physical effort to reach that particular level, otherwise you could be seriously injured. At the end of the day because so many nations are involved in athletics it is so easy to participate and because everybody can run there are a lot of participating nations in this field of sport. British athletics has been mis-managed and mis-handled over many years and it appears to me that certain athletes are extremely jealous of the exploits of the rowing and cycling teams. Certain persons are now it appears dismissing the efforts of these teams as if anyone can do their sport and do it well which is absolute rubbish. Finally I just wish and hope that the cycling team will be honoured properly as the team of the year at the BBC sports awards in December. For all their hard work and detemination over the years. Yours faithfully tech

The whole of the cycling team deserves great credit for the number of gold medals which they have won. Chris Hoy's achievements are fantastic and will hopefully remind people how lucky we all are to be British.

John Ibbotson says...

As an ertwhile cyclist the only comment I can make is to express my admiration for the dedication and awsome power shown by the British cyclists, Chris Hoy at the head of them. Where does he rank? #1

Posted 15:11 19th August 2008

Allan Martin says...

Chris is a phenomenon. He would have pocketed a fourth gold if the Kilo had not been eliminated from the competition. Unfortuntaly for Chris and the rest of the cycling team, he will get much less recognition than he and the rest deserve.
