Wolves: earned Kammy's praise for picking up a crucial win at Burnley
GAME - Burnley 1-2 Wolves
This was the biggy in the Premier League this weekend. It was always going to be a really difficult game for Wolves but although they were more or less gifted the victory, they still had to work their socks off. It was a real six-pointer and I think had they lost, people would've said that's it for Mick McCarthy and his side. Now though, it is all doom and gloom for Burnley.
TEAM - Birmingham City
What a great fightback against an Everton side who are very much in form and have only really had one blip in the last two months, against Sporting Lisbon. Alex McLeish has done a great job this season and the fact that Cameron Jerome is their top scorer with eight goals shows you how everyone is playing their part. Alex has worked from the back and Birmingham are well-organised, but if they can keep scoring goals they can keep themselves in the mix for those Europa League places.
PLAYER - Gareth Bale (Tottenham)
I know Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba got a couple of goals and Roman Pavlyuchenko's form carried on, but Bale was head and shoulders above everyone at White Hart Lane. He has come to life this season after a pretty difficult start at Spurs and he is showing us now what we all saw at Southampton. Michel Salgado has played against some of the best in the world at Real Madrid but won't have had a worse time than he did against Bale. It's a shame this lad is going to be like Ryan Giggs, a real diamond stuck in an international side that are never really going to do anything.
GOAL - Adam Johnson
Scott Parker scoring against his former club was great, but it was one of those you hit and hope it flies in; Adam Johnson's was measured perfectly. He looked up, saw what he had to aim for and knew he had to get it over the man on the line and bent it exactly where he wanted to. It was a great goal from a very good player and while David Beckham's injury is a terrible loss for England, you wonder if Johnson could be one of those to profit from it.
GAFFER - Mick McCarthy
As I said earlier, lose to Burnley and everyone would've had Wolves down as certainties for relegation. To be fair to Mick he was gracious enough to admit afterwards that they are not safe on the back of that, but it was a great result for him - even if Burnley did make it easy for them in the end. Scoring goals is Wolves' biggest problem but two away from home, whatever the circumstances, will do them the world of good. Mick deserves some credit for that.
GRIPE - Webb blunders
His whole display was very, very frustrating. Ok, being a referee is a tough job and no-one can get every single decision spot-on; one big decision wrong is fair enough, but two or three? Or in fact, all of them? I just couldn't understand why Howard made the decisions he did - be it the penalty on Gareth Bale or David Dunn, or the disallowed goal for Nikola Kalinic. We highlighted these decisions on Goals on Sunday and the thing that I found so baffling was how close Howard was to all those incidents, yet he still got them wrong. You don't mind that so much, but why can't referees come out and hold their hands up and admit it afterwards? Managers have to, players have to, so why not the men in the middle? It is not going to change the result but it would make it easier to swallow and understand why they did what they did, instead of it being forgotten and brushed under the carpet. Webb upset both Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp, so you know something must be wrong!

DOES THE CAP FIT KEVIN?
Kammy. Why does no-one ever mention Kevin Davies for England? He has a better goalscoring record than Emile Heskey, is used to playing up front on his own, yet people would rather put the likes of Bobby Zamora forward when it comes to the World Cup. Do you think Super Kev can do anything to get Capello's attention or is he just an unfashionable player at an unfashionable club? John Calloway
KAMMY SAYS: Well John, I can only assume you were at the game and not listening to me on Soccer Saturday, because that's exactly what I was telling the world. I don't know what more Kevin Davies can do because there were times against Wigan when he was unplayable. Fabio Capello seems to have settled on two strikers up front with one big guy and you've got say Kevin will give you more of a goal threat than Emile Heskey. But his awareness of the people around him and his overall game is so good that I think the England manager has to get along and take a good look at him. I know the jump from Premier League to international football is huge, but I still think Davies can do a job for England. Peter Crouch will be the man coming off the bench and his goalscoring record is second to none, but I don't think a place in the squad as cover is beyond Davies, I really don't.
BROWN-ED OFF
Chris, I cannot believe Hull have sacked Phil Brown! What do you think are the reasons? I know they are struggling near the relegation zone, but surely our home form is good enough. What with Jimmy Bullard back in the side it just seems a strange time? Do you know of anything that has gone on behind the scenes? And do you think Phil has been unfairly treated? Vinny Broderick
KAMMY SAYS: The first thing I will say Vince is it is a strange time to be sacking your manager. But I can understand why they have done it because Adam Pearson and Hull have taken a big gamble; they are paying big wages to try and stay in the Premier League and as a consequence, if the club was to be relegated their future could be in jeopardy. Adam Pearson was probably wondering whether he could hang on and Phil could keep them up - I happen to think he would have - but it would have been touch and go at best, so you can see why the decision has been made. I do think Phil has been unlucky because he does get the best out of his players and like you say, with Jimmy Bullard getting back to fitness, there were some positives signs. But Pearson is probably thinking that a new manager can come in, pick up three or four results and Hull will probably be safe. I would imagine they have someone lined up but even Brian Horton and Steve Parkin might have that effect on the side - it might just be that getting rid of Phil will, in a way, lift some of the pressure that was building. I don't know what's gone on behind the scenes Vince, but when you have to apologise to the Women's Institute because two of your players have had a punch-up, then it suggests all was not right in the camp. That has to have contributed to the decision.

After all the defeats Wolves have had this season when we should of at least got a point if not a win(Man Utd as a prime example) we need to buy a striker to partner Kevin Doyle who has been fantastic this season for us as Ebanks Blake has not cut it in the premier league. Who do you think we could look at bringing in if we survive the drop.

a birmingham fan asked if after a good season, would they next year end up like hull or be pushing for europe? pushing for europe?!! one good season doesn't mean you should be pushing for europe the next year. if birmingham stayed in the top flight for 5 years they wouldnt be pushing for europe during that time. thats no disrespect to them but yout need to look at the fact that now, the europa league places are going to the teams that miss out on the champions league. where as the top 4 used to be in a league of their own, then 4 or 5 teams would battle it out for the europa league, and like fulham were, birmingham could have been one of those teams but it has changed now. more teams are capable of finishing fourth and the europa league spots are now the unwanted consolation prize! heck, one or two of the four teams challanging for the champions league may not even qualify for the eupropa league! it's crazy now and only a champions league contender will be taking the europa league spots, and birmingham are some way off of that. a good season for them next year would be to stay up, becuase the second season is usually harder.

Totally agree with the Kevin Davies situation and have been saying the same for a long time. Hesky is toilet to put it politely, at least in Davies you will have someone that will not only give his all but he also bullies defenders and wins many freekicks in doing so. Defenders in the premiership struggle against Davies so imagine the defence he iwll be coming up against quaking in their boots at the prospect of marking Davies and Rooney!

Hi Chris, I think we have got a really good chance to stay up this season after some really bad wasted chances, really good to see some posotive media for wolves after all the crap with fines and poor results. Just hope baggies come up so we can nail them in the prem! come on you wolvessss

I don't see why Newcastle can't stay up. Say the bottom three stays how it is, the division will still have Wolves, Wigan and Bolton. If the top 3 of the Championship come up (Newcastle, WBA and Forest) I can see there being more teams fighting to stave off relegation. Even the likes of Birmingham are no guarantee just because they had a good year this year. What I'm saying is that there are more teams then ever trying to avoid the drop, it's not just the 3 who come up are guaranteed to go down. Therefore I think Newcastle have got a good chance of staying up, if we come up!

I think its about time that the west midlands teams are getting some praise cause you rarely see it in the media. I mean wolves look good now to stay up and birmingham are certainly going to stay up. Villa seem to improve bit by bit each season and have proved they can hanlde the big teams. west brom look good to get automatic promotion. West brom shouldnt be bothered about going top of the legue as long as they can get second place. Leicester city looking good to be in the play offs at least.

Kammy, your points about Howard Webb were valid. He should stand up and be a man and admit he made mistakes. Trouble is, he does the same every time he refs a Spurs game!

I often read your columns and I think that Birmingham have been given too much credit for their 2-2 draw, we where in complete control and then simply took our foot off the gas so to speak. Credit is due to them as they over turned a 2 goal deficit but it was completely Everton's problem, poor defending and all round sloppiness. As for Kevin Davies for England i would have to agree, he is far ahead of Heskey and Zamora, but in my opinion none of those three are England quality, they don't score enough. Yes hey work hard but we can't just rely on Rooney.

Ok Kammers, imagine you suddenly get the job as manager of the mighty Aston Villa. Currently in a decent position to change the usual 678th position at the end of the season, what would you do to try and obtain an impossible champions league spot? Would love to know your opinion. Nick Wright.

Hey Kammy, love your section here, and if I was still living back in the UK I'd watch you on TV but can you please give the ref's a break! You say that players and managers have to come out and admit mistakes but don't forget that players have the luxury of being subbed if things aren't going. Ref's are not like players, they don't sign up to be celebrities so why should they talk to the media at all, let alone 'hold their hands up' after bad games. Webb's not a bad ref and doesn't have games like this every week so next week, why don't you pick a ref that had a great game and focus on that for your Goals on Sunday piece? They could all do with a bit of public support!

Kammy; have been a Bolton supporter for over 50 years, and a great admirer of Kevin Davies. However, I think I know the answer as to why he is not considered for England. His tackling, though usually fair by English standards, is always very forceful and hard. Foreign referees simply won't find it acceptable, and will be likely to book him for every tackle, which will have him off the field after two. I suppose Capello could instruct him not to tackle, but it would be a big gamble. Peter Carr
