Wednesday's market moves

Sky Bet Betting Blog Posted 5th November 2008 view comments

Steven Gerrard is 12/1 with Sky Bet to win another penalty for Liverpool in this weekend's clash with West Brom following the controversial events at Anfield last night.

Atletico Madrid were furious with Swedish referee Martin Hansson for his spot-kick decision after Mariano Pernia was adjudged to have fouled the Reds' captain in an aerial collision deep into added time at the end of the game.

And it's also 9/2 with Sky Bet that Liveprool are awarded a penalty in the game with the Baggies.

Winning start?

New Argentina coach Diego Maradona is odds-on with Sky Bet to win his first match in charge against Scotland later this month.

Argentine legend Maradona was handed his country's top job on Tuesday following the departure of Alfio Basile last month.

The former World Cup winner's first game in charge will the be the friendly with the Scots and it's 8/13 he gets off to a winning start.

It's a 2/7 chance Maradona is still in charge at the start of 2010 (5/2 not to be) and 7/1 that he leads them to World Cup glory later that year.

Meanwhile Sky Bet have reopened their market on the next Huddersfield manager and Aidy Boothroyd is the 1/3 favourite.

Off the mark?

Ding Junhui, who is so far winless in the Premier League, takes on newcomer Joe Perry on Thursday at the Newport Centre and Sky Bet quote 3/1 for Junhui to claim a play-off spot. Currently lying second from bottom in the table, Junhui is 8/5 to get his first win in the competition over Perry (8/5, tie 2/1).

Stephen Hendry is 1/2 favourite to see off Steve Davis (5/1, tie 13/5) in the other match of the evening. Having secured his first victory in the competition last week, Hendry is 9/2 with Sky Bet to secure a place in the play-offs.

Mark Selby missed out on being the first man to qualify for the semi-finals last week after drawing with tournament favourite, Ronnie O'Sullivan. Selby is 11/4 second favourite to lift the trophy.

City goal favourites

Manchester City, Tottenham and Aston Villa take to the UEFA Cup stage tomorrow evening and Sky Bet are offering 13/8 for Mark Hughes' City side to score the most goals from the three English teams playing (11/8 Tottenham & 9/4 Aston Villa).

Following Villa's win over Dutch side Ajax in their opening group match which put them at the top of Group F, Sky Bet are offering 11/10 for Villa to win Group F and 5/2 to beat Karel Jarolím's Slavia Prague side tomorrow evening.

Manchester City, who are playing their first group stage match, are 2/1 second favourites behind German side Schalke 04 (11/10) to win Group A and it's 4/11 for the Citizens to overcome Steve McClaren's FC Twente side, who have lost their last six away games in European club competition.

Tottenham, who are playing their first UEFA Cup game under new manager Harry Redknapp, are 4/1 to win Group D following their 2-0 defeat to Udinese in their opening group match and are 1/2 to overcome Dinamo Zagreb tomorrow evening.

Thursday's match will see Spurs' Croatian playmaker Luka Modric lining up against his old club where he won three successive titles in his final three seasons and it's 8/1 for the former Croatian League Player of the Year to opening the scoring, 11/4 he scores at anytime and 7/1 for both Modric and Darren Bent to find the back of the net.

Sky Bet are also offering 15/8 for City to progress the furthest from the four English teams in the UEFA Cup, 7/2 that one of the four teams lifts the UEFA Cup and it's 9/4 for all four English sides to qualify through the next round.
