Thursday's Market Moves

Sky Bet Betting Blog Posted 29th July 2010 view comments

Craig Bellamy cut to join Fulham

Sky Bet have cut the odds of Manchester City's Stephen Ireland and Craig Bellamy joining Fulham following speculation the duo are set to team up with former boss Mark Hughes at Craven Cottage.

Fulham have confirmed they will appoint their replacement for Roy Hodgson in the next 24 to 48 hours with Hughes the firm favourite to fill the void.

Ireland to sign for Fulham?

Ireland to sign for Fulham?

Midfielder Ireland is now 7/2 (from 10/1) with Sky Bet to head south while Bellamy, who has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, is a 4/1 shot.

Sky Bet suspended betting on Hughes joining the London club on Wednesday after a string of bets on the former City and Blackburn boss.

David James 3/1 to sign for Sunderland

Sky Bet make David James 3/1 to sign for Sunderland following the news that the Black Cats manager Steve Bruce would be keen on securing the services of the 39-year-old. It's believed that Bruce could turn to James after Sunderland's first-choice keeper Craig Gordon suffered a broken arm in training, which would see the Scotland international miss the start of the new season.

However, Sky Bet make Celtic the 11/8 joint favourites along with Bristol City to sign James.

Sky Bet's Tim Reynolds said: "James is currently available on a free transfer and would be seen as an ideal short-term replacement for the injured Gordon but with the England international now coming towards the end of his career, he'll be looking for a contract to see him through to his retirement, which both Celtic and Bristol City will be able to offer."

In the other transfer news, Scott Parker is 5/6 to sign for Tottenham following the news that Harry Redknapp is keen to bring the West Ham player to White Hart Lane. Spurs have already had an initial bid of £7 million turned down for Parker, who still has three years left on his current contract.

Sky Bet pay FIVE places in Stewards' Cup

Genki is 7/1 favourite with Sky Bet for his bid to land the Stewards' Cup for the second year running at Goodwood on Saturday following Thursday's declaration stage.

Roger Charlton's charge is berthed in stall 25 in the maximum 28-runner field and looks favoured by the far side draw as trainers first out of the hat chose the high numbers in today's draw ceremony.

Bunbury Cup runner-up Palace Moon will come out of stall 20 under Kieren Fallon and is next best at 8/1 with Sky Bet, while Sir Michael Stoute's filly Enact (9/1 from 10s) is the one for money in stall 27.

Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: 'The consolation race will tell us more on Friday but most of the fancied runners are drawn high and we will be paying five places instead of four in an ultra competitive renewal.'

King Torus 16/1 for Guineas glory

King Torus is 16/1 from 40s for next year's 2000 Guineas with Sky Bet after outclassing his field in the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The Superlative Stakes winner streaked six lengths clear of Stentorian to defy a penalty in impressive fashion for the all-conquering team of Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes.

Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: 'Hannon houses the winter favourites for both of the first two Classics next year and this improving colt strengthens their hand for the 2,000 Guineas with stable no.1 Strong Suit waiting in the wings.'

King Torus's victory in the Group 2 contest followed hot on the heels of Zebedee's success for the yard in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes on Tuesday to continue Hannon and Hughes' monopoly on the top juvenile contests this season.

4/7 Fallon factor sways Bastiman

Borderlescott is 5/1 with Sky Bet to complete his Group 1 hat-trick in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York after securing a trademark last gasp win at his beloved Goodwood in the Audi King George Stakes.

The eight-year-old was given a brilliant ride by Kieren Fallon in the Group 2 contest and trainer Robin Bastiman must now decide who will take the ride at York's Ebor meeting next month.

Suspended regular rider Neil Callan was watching from the sidelines today but struck up a successful partnership on the veteran sprinter last year with the highlight being his Nunthorpe success at York.

Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: 'The Fallon factor may sway Bastiman to keep the new partnership intact but it is a tough call with last year's winning rider Neil Callan having done nothing wrong.'

Sky Bet have priced up Bastiman's dilemma making today's winning rider Kieren Fallon 4/7 to keep the ride while Neil Callan is a 5/4 chance to get back on Borderlescott at York next month.
