Flattering to deceive

Neither Cowboys or Giants are contenders, says KC

It's hard to say what is going on with these two sides this season.

With Dallas, you just don't know what you're gonna get week in, week out and those good old December blues have to be lurking in the back of their mind - they are already on the tip of everyone else's tongue.

Stumbling: New York and Dallas are struggling

Stumbling: New York and Dallas are struggling

As for the Giants, well they've lost five out of their last six, and the one win they did get was only by three points over Atlanta. I just don't know happened to this football team, especially when there were a lot of people looking at them as possible Super Bowl candidates.

The simple fact is they are not getting the job done on either side of the football. Ok, the teams they have not beaten the strongest five sides in the NFL but to go from 5-1 to where they are now doesn't look good.

I keep trying to have faith in Tony Romo, but he keeps letting me down. So you know what? That's it! Tony, you're on your own! They even designed this offense for you to do your thing and you keep messing up.

Yet they are still right in the hunt for a wild card spot. Somehow.

They need to win this football game though, because with Philadelphia playing Atlanta and a tough schedule to come, defeat will just about mean the end of the season for the Giants.

They might have to take to the air to keep that dream alive on Sunday. Ahmad Bradshaw is struggling with injury and heck, Brandon Jacobs is always hurt and that Dallas defensive backfield is one they can take advantage of.

Eli Manning needs to forget last week's performance against Denver and start working Steve Smith, Mario Manningham and Hakeen Nicks again. They are solid enough, but none of them are explosive, dynamic guys who are going to pull something special out of the bag. Maybe that is what the Giants are lacking most of all.

But Eli can't make it happen on his own. The Giants offensive line was once regarded the best in football, but this year they are just not giving him enough time to do his thing and they are not creating the same gaps for Jacobs and Bradshaw.

Faith

Defensively they are not doing it either. Usually if that offense doesn't fire, Justin Tuck and the rest of that unit can come up with something, but that ain't happening right now. It's not like a Tom Coughlan side to falter on both fronts but if there was ever a game to put things right, this is it; and if ever there was a rival to do it againt, it's these Cowboys.

They have been the same up and down side all season. You just don't know what you're going to get from game to game and if it's hard to see how the Giants can make the play-offs, then don't ask me how Dallas can be 8-3!

I keep trying to have faith in Tony Romo, but he keeps letting me down. So you know what? That's it! Tony, you're on your own! They even designed this offense for you to do your thing and you keep messing up. Dallas look like they have it all in place offensively, but just when you expect them to see it through it all falls apart.

We saw them on Thanksgiving Day and ok, they won, but it was only against Oakland. And if you look at that game, Oakland had plenty of the game before they fell apart in the second half. That was pretty much a snapshot of the season for Dallas. Promising to deliver, but ultimately disappointing us all.

It's just as well their defense, led by DeMarcus Ware, is starting to get it together. I suppose that and the fact that they are still leading the NFC East are the two positives they can cling on to.

But they don't want be taking anything for granted because like the Giants, they have a nasty-looking schedule to finish the regular season. After this, they take on New Orleans in the Dome, Washington in Washington and they finish off with Philly. It wouldn't be a major surprise to see them end on 8-7, especially the way they are playing right now.

CADLE'S CALL - I like the Giants just because they have homefield advantage on this one. Both of these teams need to find some form and start playing to their full potential if they are going to be contenders outside the regular season. This might not be pretty, but it might go a long way to deciding their seasons.
