Play-off pain

Can Hull clinch eighth spot?

Stevo Posted 2nd September 2011 view comments

Castleford have to win to make sure they are in the top eight and they have the potential to eliminate Hull or Hull KR as they play them both in the final fortnight.

Castleford coach Terry Matteson will want to go out with a real bang as he hands the reins over to Ian Millward next season. They have some tremendous players with the likes of Danny Orr and Rangi Chase in fine form.

Horne: back to his best?

I have also been impressed with young Nick Youngquest, he seems to be able to do anything and has plenty of pace too.

However they were not exactly convincing against Wakefield and it was only a late Dean Widders try that settled a see-saw Yorkshire derby and clinched a crucial two points for the Tigers.

They will really need to pull out all the stops against a cock-a-hoop Hull. They have scored 14 tries in the last two games which is very impressive.

The player who has been surprised me the most is Richard Horne. I am very pleased for him as I was beginning to think that he was finished.

I am glad to see that they seem to have stopped their yo-yo-ing. One week they would be fantastic and then the next they would fall apart. With so much hanging in the balance they cannot afford to do that.

The player who has been surprised me the most is Richard Horne. I am very pleased for him as I was beginning to think that he was finished. He has found vim, vigour and zest and been involved in setting up most of those tries in the last fortnight. They have got great strike force out wide with the superb Kirk Yeaman and Tom Briscoe

Both sides need to get their halfbacks working as they are the brains of the team. The forwards are the brawn and will do the hard yards but you need a bit of brains to make those hard yards count.

STAR MAN: As I said above I am delighted that Richard Horne has found his mojo again. If he clicks then that gives the likes of Briscoe and Yeaman the chance to show off the finishing skills.

STEVO SAYS: It is never easy going to Castleford. They can call it what they want - call it the Jungle, call it the Coliseum but to me it is always Darn't Lane. If the Lane fans get behind their players then that should make a difference. Cas know they have to win it to ensure they are in the play-offs, Hull know they have to win it to grab eighth spot. It should be a cracker. It should be a full house, so do not miss this. If you cannot get to the game then you know where you can watch it - right here on Sky Sports!
